Owner Insights

We analyzed real musician discussions from forums and Reddit to find what players love, question, and tweak about Yamaha PSR-F51.

Features and functionality

  • The PSR-F51 lacks touch sensitivity, meaning dynamic control is impossible, which can limit musical expression significantly.

    Source
  • The absence of sustain pedal support on the PSR-F51 restricts sound versatility, impacting certain music genres.

    Source
  • 61 unweighted keys are standard, but the lack of touch sensitivity is a critical shortcoming compared to other beginner models.

    Source
  • The PSR-F51 lacks MIDI or USB connectivity, limiting its integration with software synthesizers and external sound sources.

    Source
  • The PHONES/OUTPUT jack doubles as an external output, compatible with a keyboard amplifier, mixer, or other line-level audio devices using a stereo mini plug.

    Source

Comparisons

  • The Yamaha PSR-E373 and Casiotone CT-S1 are cited as better alternatives due to having touch-sensitive keys.

    Source

Software and compatibility

  • The Casiotone CT-S300 offers USB connectivity for DAW integration, unlike the PSR-F51.

    Source
  • Connecting the PSR-F51 to a PC requires an external audio interface, as the keyboard's headphone jack output is analog and not directly compatible with digital inputs.

    Source
  • Users must ensure connections go into the computer's MIC input, not the headphone output, to properly capture audio from the PSR-F51.

    Source

Use cases and applications

  • A workaround for recording the PSR-F51 is to place a microphone in front of its built-in speakers, offering a low-cost solution.

This thing is terrible, which is why it's good.

I was going to sell this but I blew the speakers on it..... Noisy hiss but can be fixed by gainstaging properly. The piano sounds are surprisingly ok and it's what I've learned keys on so I can't hate it too much.
