So i got this guitar ca. 2005. I was at a store trying out amps and on a lark decided to use this guitar in trying them out and subsequently fell in love with the guitar. Immediately I loved the way i could dial in Neil Young sounds (I'm a Neil Young fanatic, particularly his electric stuff with Crazy Horse). Instead of the usual gretsch filtertrons its got minihumbuckers which some people love, and others loathe (they are often referred to as mudbuckers). They suit my needs and when clean i can usually dial in a nice trebly twang, with a bit of dirt some Malcolm Young sounds, add more dirt and you're in Crazy Horse territory. Not everyone loves Bigsby type vibratos but I'm a big fan (see Neil Young fandom). And i love the neck. It just feels right (this might be specific to mine as other Double Jets i've tried don't quite feel right. Of course it could all just be in my head). My own criticism? I wish it had more knobs for greater tonal control (subsequent Double Jet models come with 4 knobs). What else? That's it i suppose. It's a beautiful guitar and perfect for my needs.

For about 9 years i've had a Little Big Muff which I've loved. When i started seeing videos that EH was reissuing the op-amp Big Muff, famously used by Billy Corgan and James Iha on Smashing Pumpkins Siamese Dream album, i was intrigued. I listened to some clips, and loved the sound of it. I made it known that it was something i would like and my wife got it for me. Actually playing it i have to say, it blows my Little Big Muff out of the water. It's a tremendous sounding Big Muff pedal. To my ears the Op-Amp sounds a bit brighter, and has a bit more clarity while still giving that Big Muff wall of sound. Not necessarily ideal for drone metal, but otherwise, it's a tremendous pedal.

I've had this for a few weeks at this point, but everytime I play it I become more enamoured with it. Bear in mind this replicates the sound of a mellotron, so the sound quality is purposefully lo-fi (I read that the original mellotron tapes were 5 to 6 generations from the source recordings so the sounds of the mellotron were never high fidelity). That said, this does a really good job replicating some of those sounds (my favourite settings are cello, flute, low choir and Brass). It’s an inspiring pedal.
