Dave Pensado's Gear
Think of it as taking a console (let's say an SSL) and when you hit the console hard you're inducing a little bit compression and limiting. The way the distortion comes through is very pleasing and it rounds of some edges. It helps you push sound to a ceiling in a smooth way!!!
I’ve been waiting to see this for a long time; the few times I’ve used a Focusrite console I was blown away by the musicality, the sound, color and character of it. The ISA110 (designed by Rupert Neve) quickly became my favorite EQ. The bx_console Focusrite SC faithfully captures the essence of all the things I like about the Focusrite console. This channel strip is going to see a lot of use in my mixes from now on.
In the video "3 Pieces of Gear I Use On Every Mix - Into The Lair #138" from Pensado's Place, Dave Pensado discusses his use of the Black Box Analog Design HG-2. He highlights its ability to perform limiting and compression while allowing control over harmonic content, resulting in exceptionally rich harmonics.
Studio Standard! Dave uses it in combination with the KRK E8t.

Renowned audio engineer Dave Pensado refers to the Amphion Two18 studio monitors as "one of my secret recipes for a perfect mix," highlighting their role in his setup during his special appearance at Amphion's booth at the AES convention.
Dave brings this up at 9min 43sec or close to it-
around 8:50ish give or take a second he mentions the iLoud Monitors and "I really do use them" then lifts them into the cameras view.
I use this on every mix.
It's like a little piece of art on the inside and destined to be a classic.
An emulation of the Fairchild, Collins & Gates type of compressors.
All the things you want a compressor to do, this thing does it amazingly well!!!
Pensado uses the new McDSP ML4000 limiter to control and expand his mixes. “I like to see things that don’t exist in the world. We’ve come close to exhausting the possibilities of what we can do with reverbs, EQ’s, etc., that sort of thing, and now we are doing combinations of those things…like with the ML4000.”
