Eric Peterson's Gear
Eric Peterson strings both his Dean guitars with D'Addario NYXL strings, according to this Premier Guitar rig rundown.
That was the EVH 100-watt going through Marshall Greenbacks. You’re in the studio and you end up trying different cabinets. I ended up using on Dragonlord, the EVH with the two Celestion 30-watts that comes with the cab. I also used my Engl cab that’s got two speakers in it and I think we had that one up too. I combined that with the Engl Savage 120. Blending stuff is cool but I always try and stick with one amp. When you’re in the studio, you might need a little sizzle here and there so we had other amps just pop in if we needed some extra kick instead of applying a Tube Screamer or whatever.
3:18 "And then the EVH mark 3 amp. I used these on the last two records"
Eric can be seen using a black ESP Horizon with the jackson "lawsuit" headstock in the trial by fire music video.
It just sounded really thin and weird to me. I didn’t like it. I kinda moved toward Mesa Boogie and the Mark V. I just had this wall of sound. I remember having the Strategy and the Rectifier cabs before they were Rectifier cabs. Actually, they were maybe like two inches thicker.
"Peterson keeps it consistent and affordable on tour by leaving his Marshalls at home and running his guitars into a Line 6 Relay G55 wireless feeding a Kemper Profiler PowerHead that’s driving an EVH 5150III 4x12 loaded with Celestion Vintage 30s. All his effects—including wah—come from the Kemper, which Peterson controls with a Behringer FC1010 MIDI foot controller.," reads this Premier Guitar rig rundown.
Eric Peterson's number one guitar is his signature Dean Old Skull V, according to this Premier Guitar rig rundown.
"Peterson also plays a Dean Z with an EMG 57/66 pickup set. He strings both Deans with .010–.052 D’Addario NY XL sets, and tunes down to Eb," reads this Premier Guitar rig rundown.

2:51 "I don't know what this thing does. I think it makes my leads louder."

It was a Memphis Les Paul copy with a bolt-on neck. It had a cherry burst and looked like an Ace Frehley guitar. It was really cool. I bought it at some music stores in a suburban area, where they carried mostly violins and banjos and had maybe two electric guitars. I took lessons there with a guy who was a real jazz-oriented guitar player. He was about 60 or 70 years old, and he taught me some cool stuff.
I recorded the solo on “Dominion” with a Strat and an MXR Micro Chorus on. I was like, “Maybe we should do it again?” but it was so good I thought, “Fuck it. I don’t know why we’d want to change it.” It just gave the vibe when I was playing it and I kind of did that on the spot. I was just warming up and it had the chorus on there already and I think maybe I might have tried it without it but the feeling wasn’t there.

I used other guitars besides Dean. I used a Marc Bolan Les Paul with PAF pickups in it and a Joe Bonamassa Signature with [EMG] 57 or 58 humbuckers. I also used my old skull Signature Dean and I used a Fender Strat for soloing. I also used a [Harmony] Bobcat Holiday guitar from 1964 that’s crazy. I found it at Guitar Center. I plugged it into a Mesa Boogie or some version of a Roland Jazz Chorus amp and it was really clean and it was like, “Oh, my god.” I used that on “Love Of the Damned.” I also used a Gibson Hummingbird.
