"We have the old Silvertone. I mean I worried so much about these before I set my eyes on them. I thought they were going to be a nightmare, but they have given me no problem whatsoever. I've got the same amp, the same cab, I mean this is just for show really - we just use the bottom cab. They've come out of the box and have worked every day for nealy a year now, and we've been all around the world so they're good. They're basic engineering, but it still works. It's from 1963, you can't really argue with that. I mean you can see that it's made of press board but it's holding its end up," says Josh Klinghoffer's guitar tech.

"The Super Six Reverb from Fender, Josh occassionally engages the reverb or the vibrato on this just on its own just to be a very mild effect in the background under the three. In general, tone wise, the Major is dialed up to be low-endy and it's the loudest. It's a pretty simple split. You have a nice mid sounding Silvertone. And then this trend is actually pretty quiet, and just as you would expect pretty light and high-endy. it's got a little tinkle to it. But they're all on at all times. All the effects get applied to all of them apart from when he just adds the Fender's reverb or vibrato," says Josh Klinghoffer's guitar tech.

In a user-uploaded photo by Takayukiokada, Josh Klinghoffer is seen using a Vox AC30 Guitar Combo Amp, a classic choice among renowned guitarists.

"The PTINO re-routes the major signal through the 9200," says Josh Klinghoffer's guitar tech.

In the October 2011 issue of Guitar World, a scan shows Josh Klinghoffer using a Fender Super Reverb 1958 amp, positioned slightly left of center.

In the official behind-the-scenes video "Red Hot Chili Peppers - View From The Road - Cologne," Josh Klinghoffer is seen using a ZT Lunchbox 200-watt Amplifier.

"We've got a 200-watt Marshall Major. A 1970 I think this one is, through 1972. 8x10, originally a 120-watt cab but I had to swap out the drivers for 40-watt Celestions because obviously it was probably likely that a 200-watt Major was going to cause it catch fire otherwise. Josh did say it sounded great, haha, but things often sound great just before they catch fire. Destruction sounds amazing," says Josh Klinghoffer's guitar tech.

In a photo from Gearphoria, a Magnatone 280 amplifier is visible behind Josh Klinghoffer, indicating its use during his performances.

On the current tour for their newest album 'the Getaway' Josh uses a Fender Blackface Showman amp on stage. The amp can be seen at 21:23.
