A Monster!

Bought this amp new in 1974 and gigged it heavily on the road for 3 years. Then, part time until 1991. Never had any problems with it. Performed great. Sound wise, with the six tens, it produces a beautifully "round" sound with brilliant highs and thundering lows (if you want them). Since it stands over waist high, there's no need to elevate it. I still own it. Only one problem: it's extremely top heavy. The amp is equipped with a set of four removable snap-in casters on the right side and two flush mount handles on the left side. It is obviously designed to be rolled on its side from from place to place, unless you have a road case. I ultimately discovered that when getting it in and out of the truck or on and off the stage, it's always best to lift the top (amp) end first. It's amazing how many folks try to load the bottom end first!

Preferred Settings + Usage:

I always play through the second channel with the channel volume set to 10 and the Master volume to whatever the room requires, with the knob pulled out to give me the distortion I need when I open up the volume knobs on my guitar. Treble is set to 10, Mid and Bass to 5. Guitar: 1972 Gibson Les Paul Deluxe.

"The Super Six Reverb from Fender, Josh occassionally engages the reverb or the vibrato on this just on its own just to be a very mild effect in the background under the three. In general, tone wise, the Major is dialed up to be low-endy and it's the loudest. It's a pretty simple split. You have a nice mid sounding Silvertone. And then this trend is actually pretty quiet, and just as you would expect pretty light and high-endy. it's got a little tinkle to it. But they're all on at all times. All the effects get applied to all of them apart from when he just adds the Fender's reverb or vibrato," says Josh Klinghoffer's guitar tech.

"It's a 1972 Fender Super Six Reverb. Originally purchased in Knoxville, Tennessee, at the former Broadway Sound Music Store. Waylon purchased BOTH floor models that were there. In 1995, he (Mr. Jennings) gave one to my Father, for an old Magnatone Custom 250 amplifier that he (my Father) had. We STILL have Waylon's Super Six in our Family Room, along with other items he gave my Father over the years, here in Nashville. He and my Father were what we simply call, 'Buds'!"
