Joe Glaser modified it with a mirrored pickguard and a Cabronita Tele neck. The electronics include a Clapton mid-boost circuit along with a pair of DiMarzio pickups: an Area 67 in the bridge and an Injector in the middle position." At 11:00 of this “Rig Rundown” with Premier Guitar, Chris Miller, Keith Urban’s Guitar Tech show's us Keith's "Camera" guitar. Originally a Fender Jim Root Tele, the guitar was rebuilt by Joe Glaser. It has a DiMarzio PAF-style humbucker in the bridge, and a pickguard added to cover the hole where the neck humbucker originally was. The neck is from a Clapton Strat, chosen for the larger headstock to clamp the camera on.

Glaser installed the HD camera wire in a channel down the neck to a 16-pin output jack at the end of the guitar, and the live video feed is displayed on the stage backdrop. Because of this additional wired connection, the Camera Guitar is the only electric on a wireless unit.

"It’s a long story, but the short version is my wife bought it at an auction, the same auction I was trying to register to bid on this guitar. Unbeknownst to me, she had already registered to bid on it for me as a gift. I was watching the bidding, and said, ‘Well it’s gone, it’s gone under some collector’s bed for the rest of time.’ And my wife comes in and goes, ‘I just bought you Waylon’s guitar.’ It was a Christmas gift. I literally fell on my knees and cried like a little baby. It was the most unbelievable thing that every happened to me. I’ve had it for quite a few years. We got it from Reggie Young, who was touring with The Highwaymen, and by all accounts, Waylon came in one day and gave it to him. It’s a very heavy guitar. It’s a 1950 Fender Broadcaster. He said, ‘Hoss I want you to have this guitar. It’s too heavy.’ So Reggie had it for 25 years and decided it was time to sell it. He didn’t know I bought it. He was the first guy I called and introduced myself to him. I said ‘I own this guitar. Anytime you want it, come over and get it.’ He’s borrowed it for Waylon Jennings days, festivals he plays, that sort of things."

"I've got an old Rickenbacker, a Gibson Melody Maker, and I love my old Martin 00-18 from somewhere in the '50s. This guy gave it to me at a club in Cleveland because he wanted it to have a good home. I've played in on every record since."

The beautiful guitar is also a current mainstay of Urban’s live shows. "This guy has only recently made it back into the rotation," [guitar tech Chris] Miller told Premier Guitar earlier this year. 'It’s one of the crew’s favorites. Everybody loves it. Lately Keith has been using this one for "Kiss a Girl."

The guitar is a 1958 model.
