Stephen Egerton's Gear
"Recently I got a new Music Man guitar called the StingRay. It’s sort of a recreation of the guitar that Leo Fender launched Music Man with before Ernie Ball bought the company. I’ve had this guitar for two months now, and it’s maybe my favorite guitar I’ve ever had. There’s a little something special about it sonically. I wish I’d had it when we recorded the album, although maybe it would have only made a subtle difference."
"For amps I used a Blackstar HT 100. That’s what I’ve been using for the last three or four years. It’s been a good amp for me and I’ve been really happy with it."
"I’ve been playing Music Man guitars now for coming up on 20 years. I think I got my first one in 1997. I call her Old Gray—she’s a gray Axis and that’s what I used on this last record."
If you pause at various place for example: 13.44, you will see the Marshall he used live for this show, I have no clue if he owns this one or not, but he used it live.
"I have a few oddball effects: a couple of reissue Ampeg pedals and a Danelectro spring reverb pedal that I really like. But again, with the Descendents and FLAG, I use no effects or even volume knobs."
Stephen Egerton uses the Ampeg Dan Armstrong Plexi Electric Guitar during performances with FLAG, as seen on his Instagram.
Stephen could clearly be seen playing a Silhouette.
"We got this Carvin cabinet when I joined Descendents in 1986. We used it on the Descendents' "ALL" record, ALL's "Allroy Sez" & "Allroy For Prez" records, and countless shows over the next many years. Still going strong."
At 24:50 on episode #240 on The Mike Herrera Podcast “I use an MXR, it’s called an EP1, it’s an Echoplex Preamp section.”
According to Premier Guitar's article, Egerton uses the Blackstar HTV-412 speaker cabinet.
According to Premier Guitar's article, Egerton uses Ernie Ball Power Slinkys.
Stephen states that the first guitar he got when he joined The Descendents was a Kramer Baretta. He states that he went into a guitar store, and tried several guitars, and liked the kramer because it was the easiest to play
"I've had this old Roberts 770 tube tape deck kicking around for years. They can be modded into guitar amps or mic pre's. Tonight I fired it up, and plugged a guitar int it. It works! Cool."
In this video for premier guitar, Stephen runs down his live rig. One of the guitars he uses is his signature music man stingray. Stephen states that he has played music man since the 90s. he stated that he liked the shape of the stingray. it reminded him of the jaguar he had as a kid. The guitar is based on a prototype stingray he was sent by music man. Music man moded the guitar for him to only have one pickup. He also had them remove the knobs and switches, because that is something he doesn't need for his playing style.
Stephen uses a Lehle splitter. this sends signal to his two blackstar amps
Live, Stephen uses a radial jdx di box. The jdx is used to send a feed from his amps direct to front of house. The feed is taken from the amp head before it gets to the cab. this sound also goes to the band's in ear monitor setup. To be safe, Stephen also has a mic set up on one of his cabs just in case
During a live show recorded on March 24, 1987, at Mississippi Nights in St. Louis, Stephen Egerton can be seen playing a Kramer Baretta equipped with a Floyd Rose Tremolo System. This guitar may have also been used in Descendents' 1987 record ALL.
Stephen Egerton is confirmed to use the Ampeg AMG100, as seen in the 1989 live concert video of ALL, available on YouTube by Retro Punk Hardcore Vids.
