Founded in 1930 by Lou Burroughs and Albert R. Kahn in South Bend, Indiana, Electro-Voice (EV) is an American professional audio manufacturer headquartered in Burnsville, Minnesota. The company's origins trace to a PA system built for Notre Dame football coach Knute Rockne, who dubbed it his "electric voice" — giving the brand its name. During World War II, EV developed noise-canceling microphone technology used in military communications, and in 1963 the company received the first Academy Award ever given for an audio product, honoring the Model 642 Cardiline shotgun microphone.

EV is best known for its microphones and loudspeakers. The RE20, introduced in 1968, is one of the most iconic broadcast and recording microphones ever made, prized for its Variable-D technology that eliminates proximity effect. The RE320 and RE27N/D round out the RE series for studio and broadcast use. On the loudspeaker side, the ZLX series of portable powered speakers has sold over one million units, and the EVERSE line of battery-powered speakers — including the EVERSE 8 and EVERSE 12 — serves mobile DJs, musicians, and houses of worship. The EVOLVE column speaker series and ELX installation speakers address live sound and fixed-install markets.

EV is part of the KEENFINITY family of brands alongside Dynacord, RTS, and Telex. The company designs all core components in-house, including enclosures, waveguides, and drivers, and holds a significant patent portfolio spanning innovations like the Constant Directivity Horn and Signal Synchronized Transducers (SST) waveguide technology.

Electro-Voice has 283 products cataloged on Equipboard, including Dynamic Microphones, Speakers & Accessories, and Subwoofers & Accessories.
