Stu Mackenzie's Gear
Stu had this guitar custom built for him with a microtonal fret modification. He can be seen using it throughout the promo for 'Rattlesnake'.
When asked which pedals he used in a Reddit AMA, Stu replied "yo... carbon copy, maleko vibrato, DD3, torns peaker, cry baby."
"I’ve always used, from the very start, just a Hot Rod Deluxe amp, which is kind of the most basic… really stock standard, common Fender."
(im not sure exactly what model but ive seen it and it seems like a basic hot rod deluxe)

Stu Mackenzie of King Gizzard and the Lizard Wizard uses the Hagstrom F-12S 12-string electric guitar, as seen in their live performance of "The River" on KEXP. This Swedish-built guitar, produced between 1965 and 1967, is known for its easy playability and Hagstrom's signature fast neck. The F-12S features unique controls, including flick switches for pickup selection and tone/mute modes, which contribute to its distinctive sound.
"I mean, my pedal board is mostly pretty standard. I’ve got a Boss Tuner, an MXR Carbon Copy, a Boss DD-3 Delay, a Cry Baby Wah Pedal, all standard as. The only off ones are a Devi Ever Torn’s Peaker, which is like my fuzz pedal, which I’ve used since forever." in an interview where he discusses his guitar setup.
Here in this picture, Stu can be seen playing a blue 1960s Yamaha SG-2A. Bedazzled by his girlfriend with heart stickers [confirmed in a Reddit AMA] he has been using this guitar since 2014. Tuned to C# standard between 2014 and 2017 for Mind Fuzz and Poly, then tuned to E standard at the very end of 2018 replacing the Hagstrom F12, before coming back in 2021 as the permanent E-Standard guitar with its most notable use being Omnium Gatherum and onward.
Stu Mackenzie uses the Electro-Voice 635A microphone, known for its lo-fi and raw sound, as shown in a user-uploaded photo on 1business.
One of Stu's main guitars, this was purchased from TC Music Enterprise in early November of 2018, replacing the Yamaha SG-2A as his C# Standard guitar. It was used during the creation of Infest the Rats Nest, Omnium Gatherum, and possibly parts of PetroDragonic Apocalypse.
The guitar was damaged in a lift accident on June 5th, 2022, between shows in Barcelona. On May 4th, 2023, the guitar re-appeared in a teaser for the Gila Monster music video on Instagram. Four days later, the band confirmed on their Instagram story that the guitar had been repaired by Rick Steward and Daniel Hoban, and was to return for good.

In this video we can see the SM57 on Stu voice, replacing his classic EV-635. They probably made a change of microphones, because we can see the SM57 in the voices and the EV-635 in the drums hi-hat. At 8:41 we can see de EV-635 on the hi-hat.
Throughout the video, Stu can be seen playing a Fender Stratocaster in an Arctic White finish
“For a pretty long time I’ve used an Electro-voice RE-20,” he said. “It’s the best microphone I own by a pretty long way. The diaphragm is pretty far in it so you don’t really have to use a pop filter. You can get a really in-your-ear, straight-up, true sound. I use one for kick drums too so it’s a good combo mic. It’s got similarities with a Shure SM7, but the SM7s are more bass-heavy, they sound more like modern radio whereas the RE-20 sounds like ’70s radio.”
This interview with Stu shows his Tascam 38 and states; "Nowadays he has a Tascam 38 eight-track reel-to-reel..."
