ISP Technologies — short for Intelligent Signal Processing — is an audio equipment manufacturer based in Waterford Township, Michigan. Founded by James "Buck" Waller, a self-taught engineer with over 38 patents in audio signal processing, the company operates across two domains: professional audio systems for live sound and installations, and guitar signal processing. Waller also holds the patent for Circle Surround Technology (developed with Derek Bowers of Analog Devices), and ISP's pro audio division produces the HDL series of line array speaker systems, powered amplifiers featuring the company's patented D-CAT and DAA (Dynamic Adaptive Amplifier) technology, and XMAX subwoofers — gear found in houses of worship, sports arenas, casinos, and universities.
On the guitar side, ISP Technologies is best known for the Decimator, a noise reduction pedal that has become an industry standard among high-gain and metal guitarists. The Decimator lineup includes the Decimator X, the Decimator G String (which tracks the guitar signal before the amp's preamp for more transparent gating), and the compact DECI-MATE Micro. Beyond noise reduction, the company produces the Theta preamp pedal — a high-gain distortion preamp capable of over 160dB of gain with built-in Decimator noise reduction — as well as the EMPYREAN dual-preamp pedal and the Theta Pro DSP floor-controlled guitar system. ISP has also collaborated with Michael Sweet of Stryper on signature editions of the Theta Pro DSP and the Theta MSX, each loaded with Sweet's personal presets and finished in Stryper's yellow-and-black color scheme.
ISP Technologies has 25 products cataloged on Equipboard, including Noise Gate Effects Pedals, Multi Effects Pedals, and Guitar Power Amplifiers. Their gear is featured by 153 artists, with the strongest followings in Rock, Metal, and Pop. Notable users include Andy Wood, Leda, and Jack White. Most ISP Technologies products sit firmly in the high-end, boutique range.
