Gear Review: Big Fat Snare Drum | Tom Tom Magazine

tomtommag.com

The Big Fat Snare Drum offers drummers a game-changing solution for sound control, transforming any kit into a vintage powerhouse with ease. Its patented design effectively reduces overtones while maintaining some of the drum's natural character, making it versatile for various styles. While some users may find it overly dampening on smaller toms, the ease of swapping between models allows for tailored sound adjustments. However, the weight and bulk of the BFSD compared to traditional dampening methods may deter some players. Still, for those seeking a reliable way to achieve a deep, punchy sound without constant tuning, this product is a worthy investment.

Big Fat Snare Drum Review - Drumhead Authority

drumheadauthority.com

This accessory transforms your snare drum sound with impressive dampening and warmth, ideal for a vintage vibe. Available in several sizes, it offers versatility, but some may find it overly drastic, eliminating sustain entirely. The construction is solid, ensuring durability, yet its effectiveness largely depends on personal taste. While it excels at producing a deep thud, it might not suit all styles, particularly those needing more resonance. Ultimately, the Big Fat Snare Drum is a worthwhile consideration for some drummers, but not a one-size-fits-all solution.

Last night and the night before were 2 of the more challenging gigs I've ever played. In Amsterdam, we played an extremely boomy room and only 1 of the 3 vocalists in the band had mics. I had a pretty boomy jazz kit to work with, on top of things. My @bigfatsnaredrum toys arrived the day I left for this tour and they saved me in Amsterdam. Last night in London, the kit was completely dead. Heads were beat. Snares were tangled and broken. Floor tom had more tape on it than I could remove. The snare went from sounding like a broken piccolo to sounding like #mickfleetwood. Thank you #bigfatsnaredrum You saved the day!
