Founded in 1924 in Berlin by Eugen Beyer, beyerdynamic is one of the oldest manufacturers of headphones and microphones in the world. The company began by producing loudspeakers for cinema halls before expanding into headphones and microphones. At the end of the 1930s, Beyer developed the DT 48, the first dynamic headphone, which remained in production until 2012. In 1937, the company launched the M 19, its first studio-quality dynamic microphone. After World War II, beyerdynamic relocated to Heilbronn, Germany, where it continues to design and manufacture its products, with the vast majority of its headphones and microphones handcrafted on-site.
beyerdynamic is best known for its DT series of studio and audiophile headphones — the DT 770 PRO (closed-back), DT 880 PRO (semi-open), and DT 990 PRO (open-back) — which are staples in professional recording studios and among audio enthusiasts. The flagship T1 and T5 Tesla headphones showcase the company's high-end engineering. On the microphone side, the M 160 hypercardioid ribbon microphone, introduced in 1957, is a classic studio tool that was inducted into the NAMM TECnology Hall of Fame in 2019. The M 88 dynamic microphone is another widely used model in both live and studio settings. beyerdynamic's products have been used by artists including The Beatles, Jimi Hendrix, Stevie Wonder, and ABBA.
