Critic Reviews

Review – Dean Custom Zone Bass in Nuclear Green | MikesGig.com

mikesgig.com

The Dean Custom Zone Bass in Nuclear Green defies expectations with its surprisingly high quality and playability for a bargain price. With a striking look and a sound reminiscent of classic P-basses, it feels like a steal at under $300. While minor setup tweaks are necessary to optimize performance, the overall construction is impressive. However, inconsistencies in fret height and a low nut slot may require some DIY fixes, which could deter beginners. Still, for those willing to invest a bit of effort, this bass proves to be an inspiring choice. It's a bold statement piece with great potential, making it a worthy addition to any player's arsenal.

How Fun Is This Neon Green '80s Dream of an Electric Bass From Dean? | Ultimate Guitar

ultimate-guitar.com

The Dean Custom Zone bass is a vibrant tribute to '80s aesthetics that undeniably grabs attention. While it offers a decent sound for rock and metal, the review notes a lack of tonal depth in clean settings and discomfort in playability compared to pricier alternatives. The bass is functional and stage-ready, making it a fun choice for casual performances, but potential buyers are advised to consider better quality options if they're serious about their craft. In essence, it's a fun, flashy bass that may serve well as a backup but offers limited versatility and comfort.

Rex and the Bass: Dean Custom Zone 4-String Bass Review

rexbass.com

The Dean Custom Zone bass stands out visually with its bold colors and unique design, but it comes with compromises. While the playability and tonal quality are satisfactory, the initial setup may require significant tweaking, which could deter novice players. Build quality is acceptable, though some aspects like the fretboard finish feel rough. Priced affordably at around $200, it's a decent entry-level option, but potential buyers should definitely try before purchasing to ensure it meets their needs.

Decent bass

Gets the job done. You get used to the plastic fretboard after awhile (even if I still prefer rosewood). And the simple controls makes this beginner friendly. The vibrant pink (or green, like mine) helps it stand out from other more natural colored basses
