Description
Step into musical history with the Dennis Dunaway's Modified 1969 Gibson EB-0 "Frog Bass," a unique instrument that has been personalized by the legendary bassist himself. Originally crafted during the gold era of rock and roll, this iconic bass has been tailored to meet the demanding standards of professional performance. Known for its signature deep and rich tones, the EB-0 "Frog Bass" was a key player in the sonic landscape of the late 60s and early 70s.
This vintage piece features a mahogany body, known for its warm resonance and sustain, making it an ideal choice for both heavy rock riffs and soulful blues grooves. The neck is crafted from mahogany as well, providing a comfortable grip for seamless playability. The rosewood fingerboard adds a touch of elegance and contributes to the smooth, mellow sound that players love.
Dennis Dunaway's modifications enhance the original design, offering upgraded pickups for improved clarity and punch. These enhancements ensure that whether you're playing at a small club or a large venue, your sound will cut through with precision and power. In these photos on the left, Dunaway can be seen preforming live with his modified 1969 Gibson EB-0, dubbed the "Frog Bass" for it's green color in addition to other reasons. This Bass was donated to the Rock 'n' Roll Hall of Fame Museum many years later.
When asked about the Bass in an April 2017 issue of Vintage Guitar, Dunaway explained the instrument's odd finish coloration, as well as it's name origin:
[Vintage Guitar]: "What’s the story behind the Gibson EB-0 “Frog Bass,” which now resides at the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame Museum?"
[Dunaway]: "I bought that in 1969. I used model-car paint to spray it Emerald Green with a silver undercoat, then glued mirrors and Swarovski crystal rhinestones all over the body. I added a Fender Precision pickup in the bridge position. Cindy, my girlfriend at the time and now my wife of many years, always thought I looked like a frog when I smiled, so she gave it the nickname."
