Critic Reviews

Focusrite VRM Box

soundonsound.com

The Focusrite VRM Box offers an innovative solution for headphone mixing, simulating various speaker and room environments to help ensure mixes translate well across systems. It's particularly beneficial for those limited by space or budget from using traditional monitors. However, its integration with other interfaces is cumbersome, and it lacks direct DAW control, which could hinder workflow. Despite these drawbacks, its ability to reveal mix issues makes it a valuable tool for many. While a plug-in version might simplify its use, the hardware's effectiveness at providing a "speaker-like" experience on headphones makes it a worthy investment for portable or home studios.

[Review] Focusrite VRM Box

tnt-audio.com

The Focusrite VRM Box offers a practical solution for home recordists needing to simulate different speaker environments through headphones. While it doesn't entirely replace the experience of hearing mixes on actual speakers, it enhances headphone monitoring by providing credible emulations of various speakers and acoustics. The DAC itself is solid, though limited to 48 kHz, and the software interface is intuitive. However, the sound lacks the definition of higher-end systems. Overall, it's a worthwhile tool for its price if you accept the bit rate limitations and seek a convenient way to test mixes across diverse settings without leaving your computer.

Great Device, Doubles as an external sound card

I bought this device not knowing what to expect but found it's recreation of different listening environments quite exceptional. This device also takes over as sound card when you are using it which is great if you need something a step above the built in cards that come in today's computers but not so good if you want to use it in tandem with interfaces/outboard gear. Luckily it's application probably doesn't call for that very much tho. After owning this device for about a year it has begun to deteriorate and the driver crashes no matter what driver I download form focusrite but ASIO still works with it somehow.

love this

This is my go to mix tool nothing does what this thing does. It uses psycho acoustics to simulate an actual controlled environment.
