Pretty good if you want to get that Galneryus tone, but make sure you use a tight overdrive up front.
Rob DeAntonio from Jaded Faith was kind enough to make the JFM800 module, which is his take on the preamp section of the classic Marshall JCM800. This modular preamp features two different Marshall voicings - JTM (a smoother attack with scooped mids, great if you want to do Slayer songs) and JCM (more aggressive attack on the mids, great for Galneryus and/or almost any other power metal tones). The aesthetics of the front panel really reminds me of the classic Marshall amp head with the gold/black control knobs.
What do I think of the sound? Well, without the overdrive, it does tend to sound rather flubby and dark, so this preamp does need help from a good overdrive pedal. As soon as I started using the Electric Eye Audio Mud Killer up front, that's when the true greatness of the Marshall high-gain metal tone began to shine. This module has mids and treble that are very forgiving even if you crank them up. This module's tones with the overdrive sound so great, you don't even need to do much to "fix the guitar tone in the mix." You can use almost any kind of cab IR on it too - Mesa, Orange, Marshall, Revv, etc. and it'll still sound amazing.
Definitely a keeper for my Synergy rack system. Just remember to shell out another $300 for a high-end metal overdrive such as the Mud Killer, Precision Drive, etc. to really tighten things up if you're a fan of modern metal tones.
Preferred Settings + Usage:
Modern Galneryus/Syu Tone (geared towards guitars that use a Seymour Duncan JB in the bridge position): Gain 2 o'clock Bass 2 o'clock Mids 3 o'clock Treble 4 o'clock Volume 10 o'clock (depends on your rig) Voicing JCM
