Sterling RAY35 5-String Bass

houstonmusicreviews.com

The Sterling by Music Man Ray35 is a standout in its price range, boasting exceptional build quality and sound that rivals its pricier siblings. With a punchy tone and perfect factory setup, it's hard to find competition at $769.99. Its active electronics deliver diverse tonal options, though the longer scale may require adjustment for some players. While the weight is a bit hefty at 9 lbs, it balances well, making it a solid choice for live gigs. Just keep a spare 9V battery handy!

Very solid instrument

I purchased my stingray 35 about a year ago, and it has become my primary bass. These instruments far exceed others in there price range. Originally I was hesitant to go sterling rather than ernie ball, but after I was able to A/B them there werent enough differences to justify paying around $1,400 more.

With that being said I would still love to have an American version. My recommendation would be if you have the money for an Ernie Ball, buy the Sterling, and whatever you dont spend use to upgrade amplification/studio gear.

Great bass for the money

The Sterling Ray35 is on par with the USA Stingray 5 except for the compensated nut. The bass is remarkably well built and nothing like the cheapo S.U.B. series. These are Indonesian and setup in the USA and is a fantastic deal. You could work as a pro musician with two of these for the price of one Stingray 5.

Great instrument

Little lighter then the big brother stingray ... more mid- bass sounding. Perfect for my need.

Preferred Settings + Usage:

EQ flat for studio and just a little fine- tuning with the mids live.
