Tung-Sol 12AX7 Gold Pin

Use in Bogner 101b, D style amps, fenders. Very high gain tube, very round sound and glassy highs.

Sound good, do they? The force is strong with the Russian tung sol branded tubes, but failure rate out of box? High it is, mmmmm. Well tested these must be. In bulk Yoda recommends you buy. Money you save, yourself you will test them and sort by microphonics and tone you must. Sharpies you can use to mark them. With number Yoda would grade. For best tube 1 to use in V1 slot, for worst tubes 2 for V2 or 3 spot. P you will mark mediocre tubes, standing for phase inverter P does.

I use in V1 and Bogner 101b V1 & V6. Don't care for in phase inverter myself.

in a high gain amp its lack of internal headroom might be muddy in the PI. I don't tend to use them as the PI these days either, but I really liked them in that slot when I had marshall superleads... helped round the tone out, especially on the metal-face... I think right now I have one of these as V1 in my HC30 with GE gray plates in the V2 and PI slot and a Mullard mesh plate ef86 in the pentode channel, though the V2 tube powering the top boost could also be a JJ 803, Phillips JAN 7025 or a 70s Tesla 83. I forget what sounded best last time I fucked with that amp. My ac4 has one of these in V2, but V1 wound up sounding best with a military grade Mullard ECC81. I think I still have the last of my stash of old amperex bugle boys in every slot of the 62 ac30 and I have yet to bother opening up the a30hw2x because it sounds damned good with whatever came in it. I will say that I REALLY like these tung sol "RI" tubes in the PI of a blackface fender with 6L6es to add a little grunt over the stock 12AT7 phase inverter. For thick 60s fender grind putting one of these in V1 and PI of a blackface head and leaving V2 empty really works. The british and European old stock ecc83s can sound a little tizzy in this application, but old American tubes like the RCAs and GEs are just not harmonically rich enough when you start overloading a blackface. Some will argue, but that's my experience. American tubes really seem to excel in tweed fenders and their cousins like early gibsons, supros, harmonies, and of course Voxes where there is little to no negative feedback. But in general I am a pretty big fan of this new sensor "tung sol" tube, I just wish they were a little more robust. They have such a high failure rate, even once tested, and they don't have the lifespan of an older dual triode. But they sound good in almost every application and distort easily and smoothly.
