Telefunken Elektroakustik is an American microphone manufacturer based in South Windsor, Connecticut, founded by Toni Fishman in 2001 as a revival of the original Telefunken brand established in Berlin in 1903. The company began by reverse-engineering replacement parts for coveted vintage tube microphones — starting with the polar pattern selector switch of the legendary ELA M 251E — before progressing to full reproductions and original designs. All Telefunken microphones are hand-built and tested at the company's Connecticut facility.
The product line spans several tiers. The Diamond Series offers historically accurate recreations of iconic studio microphones including the ELA M 251E, U47, U48, and C12, built with point-to-point wiring to original specifications. The Alchemy Series (formerly the R-F-T Series) includes vintage-inspired designs like the TF29 Copperhead, TF39, TF47, and TF51 that blend classic aesthetics with modern manufacturing. The Dynamic Series — headlined by the M80, M81, and M82 — has earned widespread adoption in live sound for its condenser-like clarity and feedback rejection. Telefunken also produces direct boxes, XLR and instrument cables, and vacuum tubes.
Telefunken has won multiple TEC Awards, including recognition for the Diamond Series in 2003 and the M81 and M82 dynamic microphones in 2013 and 2014 respectively. The M80 dynamic microphone has been adopted by artists and touring acts including Green Day, Phish, Steely Dan, and Death Cab for Cutie. The company also produces "Live From The Lab," a music video series recorded exclusively with Telefunken microphones at their Connecticut headquarters.
Telefunken has 91 products cataloged on Equipboard, including Condenser Microphones, Dynamic Microphones, and Guitar Amplifier Tubes.
