Description

6N2P-EV is a miniature 9-pin dual triode vacuum tube manufactured in USSR, Russia and China with characteristics similar to the 12AX7. It's an improved and more rugged version of the 6N2 and was introduced in the 1970s.

The most significant difference between the two is that 6N2P, and 6N2P-EV have their two filament elements connected in parallel, unlike the series filament connection of the 12AX7, and it is thus only possible to operate them from a 6.3 volt, 340 mA filament supply (whereas a 12AX7 may be operated from either 6.3 or 12.6 volts, at 300 mA or 150 mA, respectively.)

Neither the 6N2P nor the 6N2P-EV is a pin-compatible replacement for the 12AX7 - an adapter (Or rewiring the valve socket) is required. The amplification factor of 6N2P is 98 which is marginally lesser than 12AX7, its higher heater current draw is similar to a 5751.

Owner Insights

We analyzed real musician discussions from forums and Reddit to find what players love, question, and tweak about Voskhod 6N2P-EV.

Setup and maintenance

  • Owners recommend using a V1 tube shield and shield base to eliminate hum by grounding the unit to the faceplate.

    Source
  • Proper wiring with separated left and right grounds and using a thicker main ground wire can resolve hum issues in the Little Bear T7.

Mods and upgrades

  • Swapping the stock .47uF WIMA poly capacitors for paper or film in oil caps, like Russian PIO, can significantly alter the sound quality.

    Source
  • Voskhod 6N2P-EV driver tubes, noted for military-grade longevity, are a popular upgrade for improved sound quality.

    Source
  • Genalex Gold Lion 12AX7 tubes are highly recommended for their exceptional sound quality, despite their higher cost.

    Source
  • The Little Bear T10's cheap Chinese tubes can be replaced with NOS Voskhod 6N2P-EV tubes for improved sound quality and a Reflector 6C4P-EV for the rectifier.

    Source
  • Owners of the Little Dot MKII often modify the blue LED to a more traditional orange or red for aesthetic preferences.

Features and functionality

  • The T11 includes a built-in volume control, unlike the T10 model, allowing for easier integration with existing setups.

    Source
  • The Little Dot MKII serves as both a headphone amp and preamp, enhancing its versatility in audio setups.

    Source
  • The Little Bear T7's ability to switch seamlessly between aux input and phono input without volume discrepancies enhances user experience.

    Source

User experience

  • Preamp tubes in these units generally last over 5000 hours, reducing the frequency of necessary replacements.

    Source
  • Voskhod 6ZH1P-EV tubes in the Little Dot MKII were found too bright by some users, who preferred Yugoslavian EI 6HM5 tubes for a more relaxed, detailed sound.

    Source
  • The Pioneer PL-L800 is praised for its smooth playback with minimal tracking distortion and IGD, especially when paired with an Audio Technica microline stylus.

    Source
  • The Little Bear T7's lack of an attenuation knob contributes to a cleaner sound compared to models like the FX-Audio Tube-01 and Tube-03.

    Source

Comparisons

  • The Pioneer PL-L800 turntable offers a rare combination of linear tracking and a standard cartridge mount, unlike the more expensive and sought-after Yamaha PX series.

    Source
  • Users transitioning from the Little Bear T10 to the T7 notice the latter's cleaner audio quality, attributed partially to the absence of certain features like the attenuation knob.

Cheap, and durable.

If y'all think that the 12AX7 tubes made by JJ Electronics are cheap, well I got a news for y'all folks. A major reason why I never modified my RedBear Mk120 to work with 12AX7 tubes is the the price of these 6N2P-EV tubes.

I buy two quads (Matched trio of 6N2P-EV specially selected for low noise, and high gain + One specially selected low noise, and high gain 6N2P-EV with balanced triodes for the P.I.) for just $71.

That's approximately $9 per tube, and that ain't some randomly selected bunch of tubes, each of those tubes are specially selected for low noise and high gain. In terms of longevity and reliability they leave currently produced tubes in dust. So as long these 6N2P-EV tubes exist in the market I ain't rewiring my RedBear Mk120 for 12AX7 tubes.

long tailed pair phase inverters are by definiton self balancing, even concertina is self balancing since only 1 triode is used and the other is a driver, and the paraphase inverter will enver in a zillion eyars be balanced because its an awful design for that.... no need to pay extra, balanced triodes are for input stages of stereo equipment like a tube phono preamp or a stereo compressor with tube line amps

Thanks for the information bud, now I'm gonna save even more money. A quad of 6N2P-EV costs barely $20 to $24.....😃😃😃

I agree with James about the phase inverter tube. Neither long tailed phase inverters, nor cathodyne phase inverters require a balanced triode tube. Balanced triode tubes are only required for paraphase type phase inverters, and none of the modern day amps use the paraphase type phase inverters.

A paraphase inverter is impossible to balance precisely, hence using a balanced triode tube theoretically maintains its balance. However even if you use a balanced tube for a paraphase inverter the tube balance will slowly drift with time and at the end of the day it will become unbalanced. Paraphase inverter is flawed by design.
