Owner Insights

We analyzed real musician discussions from forums and Reddit to find what players love, question, and tweak about WMD Geiger Counter Module.

Features and functionality

  • The module’s preamp and versatile filter are highlighted as standout features, offering unique sound shaping options beyond bit crushing.

    Source
  • SRR and BRR controls can be modulated with an expression pedal, allowing for dynamic sound sweeps.

    Source
  • The 'wavetables' are amplitude transforms, with a diagonal line being the base function and everything else as a distortion.

    Source
  • The Geiger Counter can sound tube-like at mild saturation shapes, transforming to chaotic or Velcro-like textures at other settings.

    Source
  • The AI Synthesis pedal in/out module is recommended for effective gain and attenuation to integrate with Eurorack systems.

    Source
  • Real-time modulation of the sample rate during solos is a favored technique to achieve dynamic fuzz effects.

    Source
  • Sample & Hold modules are essential for random wavetable selection, often equipped with internal noise sources for generating random voltages.

    Source
  • Adventure Audio Merge stands out for its built-in envelope follower, reducing the need for multiple modules to achieve similar functionality.

    Source

Use cases and applications

  • The tone stack can clean up 'sputtery' tables by cutting bass and refining output, making some tables more usable.

    Source
  • The Sample Rate knob position can cause volume drops, spikes, or cuts, especially if SR is less than 2x the note frequency.

    Source
  • The module is praised for its aggressive, cutting fuzz tones, especially when using algorithms 09 or 12 with high gain and maxed bit/sample rates.

    Source
  • The Strymon pedal to Eurorack adapter is highlighted as a straightforward solution for integrating external gear.

    Source

Comparisons

  • Bitmap 2 is more logically laid out than the Geiger Counter, avoiding unexpected silences with its mix knob and offering waveshaping, wave folding, and wave window features.

    Source
  • The Geiger Counter is noted for its distinctive bitcrusher and waveshaper capabilities, contrasting with the EQD Data Corrupter's PLL synth characteristics.

    Source

User experience

  • Some transfer tables are almost unusable without engaging the tone stack, which can clean up or enhance certain sounds.

    Source
  • Owners appreciate that the module encourages exploration, with some stating it reveals new musical possibilities when engaged with creatively.

    Source

Mods and upgrades

  • Using an envelope follower, such as Steady State Fate DETECT-Rx, is crucial to convert bass audio into control voltage for dynamic effects.
