Owner Insights

We analyzed real musician discussions from forums and Reddit to find what players love, question, and tweak about Arturia RackBrute 6U.

Use cases and applications

  • The RackBrute travel bag works well for local transport but is not suitable for flying or rough handling.

    Source
  • Gigging musicians sometimes rack semi-modulars like DFAM and Subharmonicon in RackBrute 6U despite inefficiencies, to maintain patch setups for live performances.

    Source
  • The RackBrute 6U pairs well with the MiniBrute 2s for a cohesive portable setup, especially favoring live gigs.

    Source
  • The RackBrute 6U's power limitations make it less suitable for setups heavily reliant on digital modules without modifications.

    Source

Mods and upgrades

  • Some users have drilled holes or modified rails for fitting semi-modular gear, but this often leads to space constraints and eventual reversal.

    Source
  • Users recommend replacing the stock power with Konstant Lab StrongPwr for lower noise and better performance with power-hungry modules.

    Source
  • A Belker PSU combined with a 4ms Row Power significantly reduces noise, connecting through the built-in busboard with 16 to 16 pin ribbon cables.

    Source

Setup and maintenance

  • Users recommend leaving 25-30% headroom to accommodate inaccurate power draw stats and inrush currents on the +12V rail.

    Source
  • The RackBrute 6U requires dividing the power load evenly between its two bus boards for optimal performance.

    Source
  • RackBrute 6U's stock power supply is often considered noisy and underpowered, especially when using many digital modules, leading many users to upgrade to a 4ms Row Power.

    Source

Other

  • The RackBrute/MiniBrute combination is seen as a good starter setup for those transitioning into modular synthesis.

    Source

User experience

  • Owners find that the MiniBrute 2 keyboard fits well in the travel bag alongside the RackBrute, accommodating additional space needs.

    Source
  • Owners often find the RackBrute 6U power insufficient for extensive digital module setups, leading to overheating and the need for alternative power solutions like Tiptop Mantis cases.

    Source

Comparisons

  • Intellijel racks with a 1U strip might offer better modular flexibility, but the RackBrute integrates well with MiniBrute setups.

    Source
  • The RackBrute 6U offers 176 HP, while the Tiptop Mantis provides more at 208 HP, making the latter a better option for larger setups.

    Source
  • The Tiptop Mantis, with its robust power supply, is noted for accommodating more modules compared to the RackBrute 6U, despite the latter’s aesthetic appeal.

    Source

Build quality

  • The RackBrute's handle/connector/stand design is noted as unwieldy, making it less convenient for frequent movement or adjustments.

    Source

Features and functionality

  • The RackBrute's design allows for linking multiple cases, but this doesn't alleviate power concerns, especially with digital modules that demand higher startup power.

Must-have for MiniBrute 2/2S owners that want to go modular - minor qiubble though...

Pairs perfect with my 2S, but why did Arturia decide 5hp was needed for the power module? Why a power module at all?? I'd much rather have a switch and power input on the side. It's just wasted space. Also, they say 88hp, but I get 89hp out of mine as an FYI. It's powered all my modules and is at full capacity atm, and is generous in the number of connectors available. As a whole it's a great buy, and my only complaint is with that silly power module.
