Hands-On Review: Yamaha MG166CX Mixing Console - The HUB - The Hub

musiciansfriend.com

The Yamaha MG166CX mixer impresses with its compact design and robust feature set, including six channels of single-knob compression and 16 digital effects presets. Its versatility shines, effectively handling complex live setups with ease, making it ideal for both live sound and recording. While the lightweight build and intuitive layout enhance portability and usability, its standout sound quality surpasses expectations for its price range. However, users may find the effects presets somewhat basic compared to high-end mixers. Overall, the MG166CX is a reliable choice for musicians seeking a flexible and high-performing mixer.

Rex and the Bass: Yamaha MG166CX Mixer Review

rexbass.com

The Yamaha MG166CX is a versatile mixer, praised for its solid build and a range of functionalities that cater to live performances. While Yamaha's channel count might be optimistic, the mixer provides ample inputs with useful features like illuminated channel switches, assignable outputs, and compression controls. The sound quality is clean, with no added noise, and the unit is easy to set up. On the downside, the digital effects are underwhelming, limited to one at a time. Yet, at its price point, it's hard to find a better non-powered mixer, making it a top contender in its class.

Amazing

This is a great mixer, I have only used it one weekend so far and I have been impressed. It is very user friendly so about anyone can figure it out. I use this mixer in a quality signal chain (EAW speakers, Qsc amp, Shure mics) so if you use a decent amp and speakers there should not be any problems. I am very happy with this mixer and will look into more Yamaha products in the future.

Great and rich of features

It's a great console for it's price. It has no state of the art preamps but as really useful routing options and lots of connectivity.
