John Norum first recorded and toured with a JCM800 2205 when he recorded "The Final Countdown" with Europe in 1986 and toured with them a year afterwards, before leaving the group. They have been his main amps throughout his solo career and he's still using them when touring and recording with the reunited Europe, as can be seen in the 2004 rig rundown video.

"I only use 50 watts because I think they sound... they sing a little bit more than 100 watts, and you don't have to kill the rest of the band with the volume and stuff like that - they think it's pretty loud anyways"

"I have two JCM800s that I brought from USA. They aren’t S-certified (a security certification for electric products from Sweden). They have a volt switch between 110, 220 and 240 and also 4,8 and 16 ohm. The Swedish ones has only 4 and 8 ohm. I usually put them on 240 volts and 16 ohm"

Otherwise, they're completely stock except for John having changed the tubes from EL34s to KT88s, in vein of Richie Blackmore and Mick Ronson.

John can be seen talking about the amps 3:00 into the video.

Fun fact: one of John's 2205s has previously been owned by his idol Michael Schenker, and Norum refused to sell it back when Schenker regretted parting with it!

The 1986 The Final Countdown Tourbook goes into detail about the gear Europe used for the tour (albeit with a few typos and inconsistencies), and listed among Norum's gear is a "Boss Octaver". You can clearly hear the effect on some solos such as on "Time Has Come", both on record and live.

Norum didn't seem to have an on-stage pedalboard on their 1986 Tour, and most likely used a some kind of midi swithcing system instead.

John Norum is associated with a Fender Stratocaster Japanese 1972 Reissue. He owned multiple models, including a 1985 version with an alder body and Seymour Duncan Quarter Pound pickups, known as his favorite home guitar. Another 1985 reissue with a basswood body was used during the TFC tour in 1986 and sold in 2011. Additionally, he has a 2004 reissue, also with a basswood body. The source photo, uploaded by a user, provides visual evidence of his connection to these guitars.

"Made in Japan in mid '80s, I think. This guitar has the longest sustain I ever heard! Just an awesome guitar! This one has Rio Grande Texas humbuckers which are great sounding pickups! And the body and neck is all Mahogany (no Maple top), just like a Gibson Les Paul Custom 1957 and it sounds huge!"

"This is one of the greatest sounding Strats I ever played! It's a reissue from 1983, it used to belong to Gary Moore and it's an amazing guitar! Gary used this guitar in the "Emerald Aisles - Live in Ireland" VHS and on the live album "We want Moore!". And it hasn't been back "home" in Ireland after they filmed the legendary show "Emerald Aisles" in 1984 (at the Ulster Hall in Belfast, Gary's home town) until I had the honor to bring it there when Europe played at that same theatre in 2015. It was such a great feeling to play the same guitar as Gary played at the same venue 30 years earlier! I've had this guitar for 20 years now and it's been on many albums since 1995, but mainly on my solo album "Another Destination": this is the guitar I used on one of my favorite instumental songs "Shimmering Highs" and also in the video "Strange Days" for that album. And it was also my main guitar on the US Dokken tour in 1997 and the guys in Dokken were totally blown away how good it sounded! When I met Gary a few years ago (before he tragically passed away), he signed the guitar for me on the back of the headstock, as you can see in the pic. Thank you Gary for all the great music! RIP"
