Strumming counter to another guitarist
Hey, quick question as the oppurtunity actually just arose. Let me phrase the question in a more elaborate way: In a setting with two acoustic guitarists where one is playing a set, but sometimes changing strum pattern, how does one go about playing in-between the first guitarist's strums?
Of course, i'm the obvious answer is to just listen and attempt to play a note say between two quarter notes. If you guys know more about this, that would help. All i'm doing is backing up another guitarist on an acoustic and I want to try this out. I'm just unsure as to how to approach this method.

Okay. I have a nine hour shift today, so i'll come during lunch break to make my evaluations.

That was quite detailed, but a picture is worth more than that paragraph. If you can't no worries. I just like to see the board.

Hosa IRG cables!! I haven't seen your pedal board, but you can see my new updated board on my gear porn page. Those cables are amazing. Really helpa me to get pedals intimately close to eachother.

Compared to certain items submitted to this site, that Hofner picture actually looks pretty good.

Fantastic! Luckily, I had moved all that some time ago on the newer Ghost page. So now, once I get to it, i'll create new pages for each of the members in the band. I'm pretty sure it'll just be something along the lines of "Nameless Ghoul (Fire)" or just "Fire Ghoul". Also, I'm not sure whether to put "Papa Emeritus" and just explain which one used what in the notes, or separate all three Papas.

Alright... Time for Ghost B.C. overhaul. Delete the following, please:
http://equipboard.com/pros/omega
http://equipboard.com/pros/water
http://equipboard.com/pros/fire
I'll have to get proper names for those ghouls, add them in later, and hopefully it will look pretty good.

By the way, I suggest you guys check te artists you follow to see which ones you've submitted to that aren't part of a band. But YES! Great job on Michael and anyone else helping out!

Apple... Mighty Mouse. That seems so unnecessary. It's one thing to have something like the 1 Spot power supply because even if it's redundant, it tells me who uses it, how many, whether it's popular, etc.
A mouse is a damn mouse. It has no purpose in the music proccess other than moving the cursor.
By the way, mobile Safari has a terrible habit of logging me out. That, and the posted image is way too big and I can't zoom out to see it.

So I just went on my phone to make a reply and WOAH! Minute changes to the foeum via mobile! Not sure what the regular website looks like, but it's kind of odd how stripped down it is on mobile. I await other minte chanes and responses!

Fantastic work, Michael!
I think it would make sense to start with editing bands. It shouldn't be too difficult to make the proper functions on the site, and it would greatly aid getting artists to their proper bands and such.
As an add-on to that suggestion, it would be nice if we can sort artists in bands for categories such as "current members", "touring members", and members who are no longer with the band.
This would be a good suggestion to strt with. I'm itching to get Explosions in the Sky and Ghost sorted out.
OH, speaking of Ghost, that page is a project in itself. There is one page dedicated to Ghost members, but this new function should helpto seperate them without needing a program to recognise "Air Ghoul".
Edit: Merging Tapatalk with Equipboard? Sounds like adding a chat room next to existant forums. Not sure about that, can't say. Someone else have an opinion?

Yes, Facebook is a valid source if it proves that an artist uses a certain type of gear.

You probaby haven't been here long. There's a notes section for each section. If you want to submy a Gibson Les Paul Custom, please do so, but leave aesthetic details liek model years and such in the submission notes.

Glad to have you guys back! Hope everything with your kids are going well.
Frankly, we have a tonne of suggestions, but I believe duplicates to be a site undertow in itself, not to mention dealing with artists who have multiple versions of same Stratocatster from many different years that can't be logged in one submission.
I'm excited! It'd be nice to see new changes :)

MIDI rig - pedalboard or rack drawer for effects?
Get that Behringer, raise it up to your chest, and shake it up a little. If the pitiful sound of circuitry rattlig is heard, the. Mike Hosking was most certainly correct. Shouldn't hold you back, though.
So, for someone such as yourself, it sounds like you should get a tiny board (or DIY!) and fit all you pedals there. If all you need is a MiDi cable and several others, just get one board for your pedals, pach the Behringer on top, and get one big case.

MIDI rig - pedalboard or rack drawer for effects?
AMplifiers are first priority. Go with the cheapest solution and start investing in repairs (if a blown speaker CAN be repaired) or more amps. Doesn't matter how heavy or cumbersome either solution is, it's no use if your amps aren't up to par.

MIDI rig - pedalboard or rack drawer for effects?
That's the price of having a massive pedalboard. Frankly, there's much more on his board, but he uses it as a small ambient sound in the background.
So, the choice is yours: lug around a Classic PRO Pedaltrain, or rack-mount it. Again, as big as it is, I highly suggest you get the board. A delay is something to be tweaked, not to be preset and left alone. However, that's my style, if you trust your presets, screw it and break out the Behringer board alone.

Welp, that trumps everyone's responses.
I have german shepherd, she's a year old and super energetic.

By the way, here's a tricky one. You'll need a good ear for this:

Starting at 0:30, how may someone such as myself achieve such an overdriven sound?

MIDI rig - pedalboard or rack drawer for effects?
Personally, I'm one to move the knobs around a LOT. Well, most artists I see who use those massive footswitch boards like the Voodoo Lab Ground Control or Roland FC-300 are usually controlling either a massive amount of pedals or an Axe-Fx. Something for a lot of pedals would look like this:
http://images.equipboard.com/uploads/source/image/29434/brynjarpedals1.jpg?v=1451972572
That's half of the pedalboard for the electric guitarist of Of Monsters and Men.
As for you, you're running a fairly small amount of pedals. Superfuzz, Chorus, and the Nova Drive are all relatively average-sized pedals (Nova is a bit thick, eh?). Radial is a fourth, and yes, the Flashback is fairly large. However, like I said, it's still a small board. Hell, you could fit all that on a Pedaltrain Classic. Because of this, you can probably get something like a Pedaltrain Classic 2 or PRO and squeeze everything on there. However, I'm just realising you need footswitches and volume pedal (?) for your board. If this does not all fit snugly, then forget tweaking your delay and rackmount everything. It's not worth spending the extra on the Terra model.
If I somehow missed the point entirely, please inform me.
Edit:
control is now running from a behringer FCB1010 floor board
Ah, there we go. Mike Hosking (Karnivool) actually uses that, here's the video.

Bonus, that pickup is an M1 Series acoustic pickup made by L. R. Baggs. It's an add-on by Zach, as very few luthiers add magnetic pickups to their acoustic guitars.

a song 'peaks'.... what, like an acid trip? where faces are melting and you think you are superman and your friends have to keep you from 'flying' out the window?
Close. Watch this:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nk4BxhCvc-s
It clocks at 11 minutes, but I'm sure you can handle that. The best example can be found at the end. Usually, it's either utter silence to a sudden cacophony of distortion. Other times, it can lead up to that wall of sound. In those instances, a thick, powerful distortion is an absolute necessity.
10yabout 10 years ago
Like hell I'm ever using that Metal Zone again. And I want to replace the Blackstar. I need a detox to the point where I have only three overdrives: Super low gain, versatile moderate to high gain, and RAT 2 or Fullbore Metal. That last one may seem irrational, but there are times when a song peaks in such a perfect way that it requires the biggest Goddamn distortion you are capable of using. Of course, right now, that's hardly priority. A low and middle gain overdrive (plus a dual footswitch) are all on my list of things to get soon.
10yabout 10 years ago
Well, if you happen to look at my board again here, and take into account how few years I've been playing, then perhaps you'll take note that I am in some aspects at a... "crossroad". Every pedal on the left is a sort of slightly higher-end quality, while everything on the right was the result of no money and loans.
With that in mind, I have every focus on replacing the pots on the guitar, then actually getting more new pedals to replace the old one. I'm thinking something like an Emerson EM Drive and probably one of the Walrus Audio drives. After that, I just need a suitable chorus, which gives me ample room to add a dual footswitch and make my pedals more comfortable.
10yabout 10 years ago
Can't be the DC or anything, I'm running eight pedals on a nine-pedal chain from Visual Sound. I'm sure It's the wiring or pots, and hope that It's NOT the pickups. That would be a disaster...
10yabout 10 years ago
I'll just shimmy my way into this discussion.
I'm currently at a whopping eight pedals plus the volume pedal. Anyways, new ones are the Black Fountain delay and the Boss RC-3. Here's what I have to say about these purchases:
The delay is, as it is constantly said, VERY DARK. I thought everyone was joking, but Jesus, this thing will turn my amplifier into a fan quite easily. Delay time is not as long as I wanted, but I guess I'd need something like a Giga Delay for that kind of stuff. Even with the fluid set low, it warbles a lot. Swells especially, sounds like I just threw a chord into a barrel of oil. The wild card here is the organ setting which, in all regards, is a slow spring delay. I love it, and it compares well as a normal reverb.
The loop station... I've been using this SO MUCH, mainly for covering songs and then making up random crap and layering over it. I'm trying to figure out just how much can be done with this, but It's quite limited if you don't have the dual footswitch. Fumbling with those tiny rubber buttons are a pain, and stopping it is worse. Other than that, It's accurate, no delay mistakes (fixed by an update, this thing connects to your computer!). Only thing is that because it connects to your computer, you can upload stuff from the "Boss Tone Lab". Not my cup of tea, definitely not touching that application.
Now... a dual footswitch, a new overdrive, and some method of fitting that footswitch below the Supernatural... Soon, folks.

How to get this sound? - Post here to get ideas on how your favourite band gets their sound.
It's a D Minour inversion chord (First chord he plays during the chorus). Kind of odd... he could easily just play this with the root note on the 10th fret of the E string, yet elected to go lower and use an octave up. Probably his Clone Theory.
If you wanted to reproduce this, a D Minour on the tenth fret plus that Clone Theory of yours would most likely do. Kind of a waste to use an octave pedal. If you could do it without the pedal, then why keep it? Eh, I'm not Zach Abels, and It's just an opinion.
10yabout 10 years ago
Like I said, it never had this problem before, and it only fixed itself once when the delay was turned off. Next moment, delay did nothing, everything is fine... Very odd, I hope it is something to do with the wiring.

Hey, I'm still alive!
I've just been hanging out in the Guitar Recommendations thread, trying to spruce up the new guitar.
And yes, I'm starting to worry that this site is slowly dying and that the mods may have left. Not sure, though. They could just be overhauling the site a bit and decided NOT to tell us.
10yabout 10 years ago
Very busy week, but still thinking about this and something just came up today.
Fiddling around with Boss RC-3, switched to neck pickup, NOTHING. Hardly any sound. I've been trying to fix it, then, suddenly, turn off delay and reverb, and IT RETURNS.
I think Indonesia screwed up with the wiring somewhere... I'll make a purchase soon, but I'd rather do it Friday, paycheck comes in then.
EDIT: It works, then suddenly stopped. Tried plugging straight into the amp, it works. None of my pedals are in bad condition, and they never had this problem with the telecaster...

Clean up? Then I suppose the stock switch isn't so bad, but perhaps it wouldn't hurt to get a new one in higher quality? I'll think on it.
Off-topic, but does it hurt to be trying different tunings on one guitar? Like, say I tune from standard to Open C and back, does that hurt an acoustic guitar neck at all?
10yover 10 years ago
Jesus, Jim, that's quite a bit of text.
I've been thinking about it and honestly, I do like the 'buckers, but I can experiment later. Wiring is something that can be done sooner and it make sense to have everything upgraded. On account of the phase switch, it seems to be a good alternative, but if we're doing that, then must go ALL THE WAY! SIX WAY TOGGLE! BLEND SWITCH!
But seriously, a phase would be nice to really get less bass and add some treble. So let's run down the list and take stock:
Pickups into two 500 kilohm push-push pot and two 500 kilohm audio taper pot, into phase switch and three-way toggle, right to the jack. That' discounting different wiring methods, of course.
Okay... I'd form questions, but I just realised that perhaps we should make a new thread with more opinions, or just stay here?

Yes, think of it as a notification for the moderators to deal with later. It's not meant to destroy items. See, if it were, then I would have razed have this site to the ground. Nothing but deleted duplicates and lovely Stratocaster variations as they were meant to be.

Personally, I really like the coil-tap, in fact I have a slight preference to a tapped humbucker over the regular sound. Even if I wanted to lose it, that'd leave a tiny hole in the guitar where the switch used to be. If I could have it covered in some way, I suppose I could remove, and replace tone pots with these. 500 kilohms and the DDPT switch just like a Fender S-1. Then, replace the regular volume pots with the 500 kilohm taper pots.
Few questions (because I'd do the research myself, but you already know and I'm heading to work right now). First, what determines the set value for pots on certain pickups? I'm wondering because 500k seems the standard for humbuckers, while 250k is standard for single coils.
Second, are you saying these pots are NOT 500k or that they are low quality 500k pots? I'm sure it's the latter, but one can never be too sure.

Gut it and rebuild the internals.
You say this like I have the time, money, and knowledge to perform such a delicate operation on such beautiful and fragile instrument!
Okay, but in all seriousness, It's not causing problems, It's just odd occurrences that will be dealt with. Once I have the know-how, I'm pretty sure I'll rip out her organs and have everything replaced. Heart surgery for the modern guitar!
