Identifying the gear

Yo, I said left, not right.

On Fender Bridges

A mustang bridge... it sounds scary, especially because it looks so funky compared to the other Fender tremolos. If I got myself a Jazzmaster, I probably would be moving from 0.10 to either 0.11 or 0.12, definetely D'Addarios. So, I don't think a Mustang bridge would be necessary. I may not be Armstrong, but I do rip out power chords at times, so this worries me.

What even is that? Looks like someone just created the body of a Jaguar, then put one sexy pickup in the middle.

Also, look at this. To the left of the Eventide Space. What is that?

On Fender Bridges

Take a look here: http://www2.fender.com/experience/artists/interesting-mods-lee-ranaldos-jazzblaster/

So, I had been doing some guitar research when I found this Lee Ranaldo signature guitar. More research and I end up here. Some good info, and then this:

"An additional mod tip was shared by another Sonic Youth guitar tech, Jim Vincent, who chose a Mustang bridge for Ranaldo’s Jazzmaster in order to improve functionality."

What!? How? Could someone please explain this?

How to get this sound? - Post here to get ideas on how your favourite band gets their sound.

Nevermind narcy, live you can tell its a guitar layer interacting with the bass sound which is fuzz and flange against some kinda fuzzy octave drop on the guitar. They are both panned center in the studio recording and are intentionally mixed together a bit. So you are right abouth the pickle most likely though the secret is gelling the bass tightly with a guitar doubling it to create the funky intermodulation effect. Badassery. Way cooler than if it was just a bass pedal.

OK, let me take a moment to quote this. I'm trying to wrap my head around this... it's both a guitar and a bass, both modulated and distorted but perfectly in unison with each other. I has to check this on YouTube, and lo and behold, the two are playing at the exact same time. That's genius.

Nice. OK, this one has me stumped. Take a look.

https://youtu.be/w3njT2eswO8?t=5m59s

The first three sections are straight power chords. And then the guitarist creates this terrifying roar, it's really scary, I'm sure he would scare quite a few people on a live setting. You can find his gear here.

That thing still exists? Dang, it's been a long time.

Can you, ugh... invite me, if that's correct?

Amp radio transmissions?

The Folgers ground coffee containers are my favourites. Our storage shed has a a whole bunch of them for all the little things.

Internet colaboration?

Haha, I like this. Though, we'd have to scrap the old song because it doesn't fit with this new tune. This one's fun and happy, just like EquipBoard.

For the record, I am still learning, and I can tell you guys know much more theory than I. So, this is a learning process for me.

Girls on EB!

ever notice how most of the ladies on EB post pictures of other people o cartoon characters as their user pics usually? what up with 'dat?

Cough

It might have to do with the fact that their secretive about their identity (Along with the self-conscious issues that arise because WE men can be arsehats as well as the fact that we needlessly try to impress them on internet forums knowing full well that we will only lose miserably).

Uh, did I tell you guys I was a male (because I sincerely hope you know this)?

10yover 10 years ago

Internet colaboration?

Fantastic.

One other thing, you did two bars of Cm to Dm7b5, then to Am7b5 and the Ab to Bb. I don't know if this is technically incorrect, but you kind at the second verse, you skipped the second Cm to Dm7b5, and rather did Am7b5.

There's a bar missing, or maybe that's just a structural technique.

10yover 10 years ago

Internet colaboration?

like I said, the acoustic is just a scratch line, if any instrument will hold down the whole chords it'll be piano... it was just quick and easy for me to play it on my beat up epi acoustic

you think its a lot of chord changes? its like a chord a bar with a lot of repeition

It sounds like a lot because I'm not familiar with the chords, I guess. Also, I think it's two chords per bar.

Damn, I wish I had a looper right about now, that would be pretty cool.

You should try straight piano. Might as well, even if it's going to be a bit robotic.

10yover 10 years ago

Internet colaboration?

Seriously has so many chord changes. I'm not so familiar with 7b5 chords to begin with, and the key changes are interesting, but confusing.

I have something going for the verses, but before and during the refrain... well, not sure. I have to work that out. I tried something, and it really just comes down to simplicity. Acoustic's already doing the muscle-work, so it just needs a but of lead lines. Anything more and it gets mudded up.

10yover 10 years ago

Dream guitar

You know me well...

Either way, Fender does their own relic job on the 60's JM, which is pretty nice. Let's see if they can do this to a good Jazzmaster.

10yover 10 years ago

Internet colaboration?

I didn't necessarily mean their dance stuff. They have some more ballad-y style songs. In any case, it sounds pretty good, although maybe we could go with some different chords (particularly in the beginning) since the ones you went with sound pretty dark. Also, are the words ''Already getting late to choose'' and then those chords the entirety of the chorus? It feels like it needs a bit more...

I think this is just me but from the sound of it, dark is good. I was listening and I suddenly got this Poets of the Fall vibe.

EDIT: I figured something out, but I'm sure tablature won't work, and I don't have a proper recording set-up... Maybe my phone?

Hold on, let's see if this works.

HAHA, I CAN

OK, so I think I can record a few things. I tried using just voice memos, but the amp is really buzzy and loud. Not too bad, but it's kind of annoying. I've started noodling a bit. Only thing is, I don't what key this song is and I just accidentally discovered a new scale, this thing:

http://i.imgur.com/7rvGNHA.png

What even is this?

10yover 10 years ago

Dream guitar

A Fender American Vintage '65 Jazzmaster. Of course, it's a dream. The closest I can get is the 60's Jazzmaster which I plan on saving up for. However, if I could find a good relic Jazzmaster in three-colour sunburst... that would be it for me.

10yover 10 years ago

Amp radio transmissions?

This actually happened recently to me. One of the cables that we use tends to pick up some talk-radio show when plugged in. It's just the cable itself, though. Nothing else.

Either way, it was an old cable and no one uses it anymore.

10yover 10 years ago

Internet colaboration?

Are you kidding? That was pretty cool, it almost looks like a songsheet with just chords and lyrics... Strange that that was added, yet no one has utilised it until now.

10yover 10 years ago

Internet colaboration?

OK, I'm typing from my phone so Incan't really move much plus, it's the day after New Year, so my family wants to go to iHop.

What I wanted to say was I may write lyics and make a few critiques, but I cannot record anything. I do have this old Shure mic... PE66L. It's Shure, that's for sure. No cable to connect it to and I haen't the first clue on how to record.

Anyways, I haen't any need to. I'll be back later.

10yover 10 years ago

How to get this sound? - Post here to get ideas on how your favourite band gets their sound.

According to his Equipboard, there's nothing except the Pickle that can produce that sound, but even then, the source for the Pickle is damn vague, it's ridiculous.

Edit: I found the source. Idiot didn't bother to link it to the Premier Guitar website...

Anyways, his pedalboard looks like this two months after the ...Like Clockwork album:

http://images.equipboard.com/uploads/source/image/6486/shuman_pedalboard_WEB.jpg?v=1412330901

Is that a wah? If it is, maybe he has it switched on in a certain position? I'm not familiar with wahs, but I hear people do that.

Oh, well yes. I am in college. I don't know anybody there, though, it's only my second semester.

Your favorite gear/artists/live shows of 2015?

What are you trying to say?

10yover 10 years ago

U-he giving away a free experimental reverb

"i use this to make beats, yo!"

That's amauter compared to these reviews.

10yover 10 years ago

Internet colaboration?

I wish I could do this, but alas, I am but a 19 year old college studdent with nothing but a cheap Squier Tele, a Fender practise amp, some OK pedals, and two-and-one-half years of guitar playing under my belt.

One day...

Also, damn, most people are a lot older than I expected. Jim's a dad, Nick looks to be in his early 30's, I'm sure the admins are college graduates since they made this site so well, and I'm a college freshy... Better keep practising.

How to get this sound? - Post here to get ideas on how your favourite band gets their sound.

Love the sound on this album, very well made.

Anyways, Michael Shuman is their bassist. I'm willing to bet that he's using the Way Huge Swollen Pickle. He uses a lot of T.C. Electronic stuff as well, but that's one overdrive and a distortion. "Keep Your Eyes Peeled" has a more fuzzy bass tone.

10yover 10 years ago

Jokes

Haha, it's funny for me because the only people I know who can read music go to college, and they're not even guitarists XD

10yover 10 years ago

Your favorite gear/artists/live shows of 2015?

I see you're on the site right now.

Shame, a well-designed buffer would really complete this pedal.

Edit: I tried it out, but the noise is gone, won't make a difference if I turn tails on or off... strange.

10yover 10 years ago

Your favorite gear/artists/live shows of 2015?

  1. My favourite gear, as I own very little, has to be the Digitech Supernatural. Absolutely fantastic pedal, sounds heavenly, very spacey. Only wish that I could turn tails on without sacrificing the buffer. Turning tails on adds a bit of noise. It's minimal, but it's there.

  2. I've recently been listening to Sigur Rós, and it has quickly become one of my favourite bands. I've already listened Kveikur, and I'm making my way to Valtari.

  3. We Were Promised Jetpacks at The Observatory. It was my second live show ever, the first being For Today because my friends like the band. That was fun because I crowd-surfed for the first time in my life, twice, and broke my glasses. No regrets.

Anyways, Jetpacks was fun because that was a band I really like. Anyways, they finished with Sore Thumb, which was fantastic. Love that silent space when Adam starts singing, everyone was really into the song and it was quite magical :D

"Gear Pictures" tab for Pro's Profiles

We do technically have this, but the admins have locked it for all the super-pros. I've always wondered how they added videos and images on the bottom of the page. Same goes for gear, the best have a video as a second image.

a giant thread about OD, Distortion and Fuzz!

DOD FX55b Supra distortion (awesomely buzzsawy, 90s tones, I actually kinda miss her awful sounds)

http://equipboard.com/items/dod-fx55b-supra-distortion-pedal

^ This?

I have the FX-55C with me right now. I guess buzzsawy is one way to put it. Looks a lot more professional than the older model and it just kicks ass.

Just not the right ass, and not at thte right time. It kicks my two-months-into-playing-guitar self's ass pretty hard. Now I look it at it and I think "ew, too much".

On a different note, the Blackstar HT-Dual. The boost distorts so well, it sounds fantastic. Too bad the distortion channel sounds so terrible. I can make a Metal Zone sound better.

More On Duplicates...

Sorry I didn't reply, very hectic week.

As said in the edit history: there's already a tool for reporting duplicates, you can use that tool and it would avoid your misuse of the name field –which can evidently lead to this kind of things–, if you use the right tool instead of this informal way to do things you could save for yourself and for everyone this kind of inherent possibility of confrontation… it all begins with you not using an appropriate method and could end with you using the right one and respecting the moderators' role about it.

This is like a full circle. You've already made this argument, I've already made my argument, and once again, we're back at the beginning. But confrontation? Is that what you're worried about? That's sad...

Anyways, I posted this so the moderators could see it. Just as a note, I do repsect moderators, which is why I will repeat what I've already said: I do use the Duplicate Tool, and I "misuse" the name field (if you could call it that) because those items will be deleted anyways. They are inherently incorrect and are already supposed to be deleted.

Dummy!

And finally, perhaps we should come up with some basic forum guidelines just so there are no personal attacks on people. Equipboard is a pretty international community and I understand sometimes there's a language barrier, but some language might cross a line.

http://equipboard.com/pros/gonzalo-lopez/converse-chuck-taylor-all-star-classic-black?src=email

There's a medium barrier here. As you cans see, I say one thing, and just flew to the right and away. I think he started understanding towards the end... sort of.

This is just an example of how basic etiquette shouldn't be.

Also, this site has a reputation of not using full stops. This has nothing to do with the language barrier, people just always forget their full stops.

Chris Cornell's little brother on EB?

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZA6t6pqlSSM

Not bad, sounds very good. You can't tell who actually added that page, but It's always interesting to see a pro page on Equipboard that's immediately abandoned.

Whether Pete did that himself is an improbable.

Edit: They (whomever) added the band name rather than the artists themselves, har har.

I remember when I was new to this site.

Not really rattling, so much as just thought-provoking.

10yover 10 years ago

It is my mission to make sure every human in existance sees this

has anyone noticed that the worse the band is, the more likely the members are to take their shirts off on stage?

Ego stems from a need to justify one's lack of ability (at least in these cases).
