John Mayer's Effects Pedals
Filter by
John Mayer uses the Electro-Harmonix Q-Tron+ Envelope Filter with Effects Loop Pedal in his guitar pedalboard.
"Proud to endorse the Kirkland Signature guitar pedal. What does it do? It is a boost. And then another boost. That is all. There are other flashier pedals that do more nuanced things, but that's not what we're dealing with here. If you want your guitar signal to be louder, you just step on this. Does it have true bypass circuitry? I really can't imagine that it does, but if you feel compelled to ask that kind of question, this is probably not the pedal for you. It does what it says, and it does it adequately. Thank you @jhspedals for backing the #kirkboys culture"
John Mayer post an instagram live story captioned "Every household should have one." and tags @jhspedals. In his instagram John is holding the pedal, this pedal is nine different tube screamers combiined into one box. "Bonsai utilizes a simple rotary knob to switch through nine classic, vintage, rare, or hard to find variations of the Screamer."
The Ibanez TS808 Vintage Tube Screamer Reissue is an important component of guitarist John Mayer's pedalboard.

In this photo of John Mayer's pedalboard, his Boss BD-2 Blues Driver pedal can be seen in the bottom row of the board. If you look closely, you can see the "Keeley Electronics" sticker on the back of the pedal, meaning his BD-2 was the Keeley-modded version.
The Ibanez TS10 Tube Screamer is seen starting at 3:06 in this video rig rundown with John Mayer's guitar tech, Rene Martinez.
John Mayer, the reprised American guitarist, uses the Keeley Katana Pre Amp Guitar Effect Pedal in his guitar pedalboard, to achieve a very clean sound cut.
When he opens his pedal rig, the Fulltone Fulldrive 2 can be seen.
When he opens his pedal rig around the 12 second mark, near his left hand, the Ibanez TS9 can be seen.
John Mayer posted on his instagram stories:
If your floor doesn't look like this, are you really a guitar player?
On March 27, 2017, Custom Audio Electronics shared a picture via their instgram showing off their completed work custom building John Mayer's rig for his "The Search For Everything" tour. In the photo you can clearley see the Neunaber Slate right next to the Way Huge AP.
John goes on to explain in a youtube video that he purchases tons of pedals and this particilaur reverb inspired the track "Love On The Weekend". The pedal he is refering to is a Neunaber Slate which has been rebranded / renamed by Neunaber, now called the EXPANSE.
The Slate can be programmed to be many modulation effects. John's pedal is most likley programmed as one of the following:
Wet Reverb Seraphim Shimmer Reverb (Wet, hall, plate, spring, modulated) Shimmer
A good guess is that its one of the presets from the other Neunaber reverb pedal: IMMERSE REVERBERATOR
You can hear John talk about the pedal here:
At 15:17 in this video, a screenshot of a chat transcript is shown where John Mayer says that he used a Boss CE-2 chorus in the studio for Last Train Home. John Mayer also used a Boss CE-2 live in his 2019 world tour (revealed at 16:13), set according to Mayer himself:
Chorus turned down about half way. Maybe a little lower.
In this source he lists what he is using in the description of the video, including this pedal.
In this photo of John Mayer's pedalboard, his T-Rex Engineering Replica Pedal can be seen on the top row of his Pedaltrain pedalboard, next to the Aqua-Puss.

There is no "MKII" sign under the words Aqua-Puss on the blue Aqua-Puss pedal in the photo of John Mayer's board. The Dunlop reissue has "MKII" printed just below the far right of "Aqua-Puss." This is therefore an original Way Huge product, hand-built by Mr Jeorge Tripps between 1992-1999.
Stop the Video at 0:16 to see the Pedal. "This is the Pedal-Rig. I'm a collector"
When he opens his pedal rig, on the far right, the Fulltone Fulldrive 2 Mosfet can be seen.
In front of him on the floor, the Fulltone '69 Fuzz can be seen.
