Description

The Electro-Harmonix Q-Tron Plus is the modern incarnation of the classic envelope follower, bringing back the distinctive sounds of the 70s with a contemporary twist. This pedal is not just your typical envelope follower; it comes equipped with an effects loop and an Attack Response switch, which allows you to customize your sound like never before.

The effects loop gives you the freedom to insert additional effects between the Q-Tron+'s preamp and filter section without altering the envelope drive, opening up a world of creative possibilities. Whether you're looking to add distortion, flange, or any other effect, the Q-Tron+ has got you covered.

The Attack Response switch adds another layer of customization, letting you choose between a fast, biting response reminiscent of the original Q-Tron or a slower, smoother attack for a more laid-back vibe. The Q-Tron+ is all about giving you control over your sound, so you can create those funky, filtered tones that you've been dreaming of.

Key Features:

  • Effects loop for adding additional effects
  • Attack Response switch for controlling the attack speed
  • True bypass for maintaining signal integrity
  • Selectable low pass, band pass, and high pass filters
  • Resonant peak control for adjusting the filter's Q
  • Switchable hi or lo frequency sweep ranges
  • Adjustable gain knob and boost switch
  • Sweep direction switch for up or down filter sweeps
  • Power adapter included

    Source
  • Owners appreciate the Q-Tron Plus's unique control combination, especially for settings like Low Pass, Slow Response, Low Range, and Up Sweep, which aren't fully replicated in most alternatives.

    Source

Use cases and applications

  • Pairing the Q-Tron Plus with an octave pedal is highlighted as a method to achieve sounds reminiscent of Jerry Garcia’s style.

    Source
  • Running delay effects through the Q-Tron Plus's FX loop allows the envelope filter to trigger without affecting delay repeats, adding a unique dimension to the sound.

    Source
  • The Q-Tron Plus is favored for its ability to achieve the "low and slow" sound preferred by bass players, a feature that is difficult to find in other envelope filters.

    Source

Setup and maintenance

Instant John Mayer envelope filter tone

If you like guitar tones from "I don't trust myself on loving you" or "Rosie" - that's definitely a way to go. Works very well with twangy funky picking
