In a past auction detailed by the-saleroom.com, Porl Thompson of The Cure is associated with a Fender Stratocaster Electric Guitar. During the event, Thompson remarked that if guitars could talk, this one would have much to say.

Porl Thompson of The Cure used a Gibson ES-175 Electric Guitar during the band's live performances in the late 1980s and early 1990s, as seen in the YouTube video titled "Porl Thompson's Gibson 175 guitar of The Cure."

In this video, at 4:58, there is a clear shot of Porl Thompson playing his signature Schecter guitar. In addition, in this photo, he is posing with the guitar in a Schecter catalog.

One of the models was sold on Julien's auctions, with description stating : "A Schecter Diamond Series Corsair Prototype guitar played by Porl Thompson on numerous occasions, including Coachella on April 19, 2009; the Download Festival in Mountain View, California, on October 6, 2007; the Agganis Arena in Boston on May 12, 2008; and the Sasquatch! Music Festival in George, Washington, on May 25, 2008. The guitar was a prototype for the Porl Thompson Signature guitar. The animal and floral motifs in black, on the white body, is copied from Porl's tattoos. Serial number S060511234. Accompanied by a certificate of authenticity signed by Porl Thompson."

"A special edition Gibson Les Paul Custom Goldtop from 1991 with rosewood body and neck and mahogany fingerboard, built by Roger Giffin. According to Porl Thompson's technical engineer, Thompson purchased the guitar backstage during a performance in Los Angeles, where Gibson had set up a booth. Thompson played this guitar during the Wish Tour in 1992 and on The Jonathan Ross Show on January 23, 1991. Serial number 8 0537. Accompanied by a brown case with "Gibson USA" on the top, a black flight case, and a certificate of authenticity signed by Porl Thompson." - Julien's Auctions description.

"We always used to use Roland JCs in the group, but they didn't throw enough, so when the stages got bigger I just couldn't hear what I was playing. We changed to Peavey because they're a bit bigger, but just as clean. Very basic. We use them in the studio as well. Porl uses the Studio Chorus, I use a 412S cabinet, and the amp with a graphic on it, just for a clean sound."
