Critic Reviews

Review: 4Front Truepianos — AudioTechnology

audiotechnology.com

4Front TruePianos impresses with its realistic and expressive piano sounds, using modeling instead of sampling, which keeps CPU usage low. It's versatile, offering multiple models for different musical contexts, and works well even on older hardware. While the version 2 model demands more CPU, it's a notable sonic upgrade. The plugin is perfect for live use, though solo performers might need to tweak the EQ for a fuller sound. Overall, it's a cost-effective, lightweight solution for musicians on the move.

The most powerful low-resource set of pianos out there

This is an older VST and I admit, ...is not the best piano VST out there currently in terms of sonic quality, ...but still ranks up there at the top, considering it is very NON resource-intensive, loads easily, and (somehow) maintains FULL polyphony over the entire keyboard. A piano probably is the most polyphony-demanding instrument (more notes at the same time than, say, an organ or synth), and you definitely don't want glitches or drop-outs when playing piano. TruePianos gives you 5 piano modules (engines) to choose from. For modern progressive music (rock/jazz/R&B), I use the Atlantis and Saphire modules because they have the more processed "brighter" piano sounds. I also find that I like the playablity. I find myself "enjoying" playing this VST, has a great feel.

Realistic piano sounds with CPU efficiency

My favorite plugin for a realistic sounding piano, have used it in several tracks. Very CPU efficient, multiple piano modules. For more "house-y" sounding pianos however I turn to Nexus!

M

a versatile plugin for electronic piano sounds

Nothing like a real piano; don't let the 'true' in the name turn you astray. Sounds more like a Korg M1 with physical modelling incorporated, which is exactly why it's just the ticket for all sorts of electronic fake-but-real-enough pianos.

Layering master.

Almost as authentic as a real piano. Great for layering with synth melodies.

Piano Bassnotes: I separated the lower notes from the the rest of the piano chords because I wanted them to be much more reverb-y than the higher notes which are pretty dry and unprocessed. The lower notes are also played by another VST than the higher ones, the lower one being TruePianos and the higher ones being Alicia's Keys in Kontakt 5.

DropPiano: The piano in the drop is made using TruePianos. Like the reverse chords, this also has a WOW-filter on it to give it more edge and character.
