This is an EXTREMELY powerful machine / instrument!!! Recreate the sounds of Blade Runner ala Vangelis's CS80 to the deep growling techno bass of the rave days in the 90s to complex polyrhythms of chaos! This is an analog instrument that has unusual depth due to its wonderfully expansive control via the multitudes of expressive modulation options and voices!

I picked this up second hand in 97 and it was utilized during the Lavender Hill Mob / newgrounds.com and FDA era of early internet entertainment. As a controller, it came before most in terms of the amount of options possible. The sounds are like dreams if you dive deep, which you can!
This was given to me around 2007 and has been utilized more than most of my other synths. The vocoder is fantastic!

This is a very cool pedal that is quite surprising. It would be great to have a stereo signal path but my main concern is how the feedback builds so quickly it is difficult to tame the volume so ascertain you have compression and or limiting after or you could wake the dead and not in a polite way.
Never judge a pedal by it's cover.... This pedal is a pitch-shifter, harmonizer, whammy and tremelo!!! It even has an input for a separate expression!!! While the plastic housing concerns me slightly, the effect is fantastic!

The Bock Audio iFet is a phantom powered (P48) FET condenser mic designed to capture the high SPL handling and sound of the classic fet47. The unique sonic signature of this mic is not easily replaced by modern microphone alternatives. To increase the value and versatility of the iFet, Bock added a second set of FET electronics for a second "sound", accessed via a switch.
The iFet has two different sets of electronics (mic amplifiers) sharing a K47 type capsule and large core specially designed Bock output transformer. These two "modes" of the Bock iFet offer two distinctly different sounds in one mic: the ideal FET mic for kick drums and a classic FET vocal mic for a wide variety of voices.
The "I" mode employs a classic high SPL Class A discrete electronic package (one FET and four transistors) with improved HF and LF extension. The goal of the Bock iFet is to deliver the essential dynamic characteristics of the classic high SPL FET mic but offer a better top end and deeper bass than was possible in vintage days.
The "V" vocal mode is a Class A adaption of a km84 circuit offering a simpler single path (one FET) and a warmer more intimate vocal sound. This amp has 4dB more sensitivity for lower SPL sources such as vocals.
Record whispery to belted vocals, guitars, drums, horns and more with this amazing microphone!
This microphone may be priced low but it absolutely delivers everything that the N**M*n Transistorless 103 does. It was put back to back on a shoot out and we all agreed.
The pick up pattern / region is a bit wider on this which is great for use as a room mic.
A reflection filter may be utilized to assist with minimizing background sound.
Every studio should have at least one of these!!!

This has been my main kick drum microphone for a few decades. I often place this on the reso side with an Audix D6 on the beater. I have also used a variety of other mics from the Shure Beta 52 to ... well... it is a large list.
Several years ago, I scooped a pile of these for under $30 in total!!! In fact, it was $25.
The clamp mounts are wonderful and these have been on a number of recordings from known metal artists to electronic artists and even my own recordings though I tend to record my own drums in a more experimental manner.
While I tend to say screw Behringer, there is no doubt this is a great tool.
I have a load of microphones at my arm's reach. The B1 & B2 Pro are both similar to the TLM Neumann sound. This tends to be bright. Depending on placement and the subject you are recording, you will have fantastic results. We recorded some big names on horns with this series and it won when compared with microphones which cost many times more.
You can often scoop up a deal on these used.
My B1 was under $100 brand new and my B2 Pro was $120 "used" though no signs of use and in the original plastic bags within the case.
I got this microphone "used" however it seems it was not used even once. The quality is great and the design is unique. The microphone certainly is well suited for a reflection filter.

The MD 421 has been a fixture in my arsenal for a number of years now and is most often used for TOMs on drum sessions. I have used it on Sax, Trumpet and Trombone however I do have other tools for that which I prefer.
I was lucky enough to scoop up this microphone used and in good condition for roughly $10!
While it is different from my AKG 451 B mics, this little friend can get a fine sound by the hi-hat.
Perhaps this mic will bring you joy!

I got a few of these in 2007 to add to my (then) new studio to have some extra inexpensive "throw-away" SM-58 / 57 dynamic microphones.
I have only now added this item as I am preparing to head off on a trip, hitting various cities and while I have rarely used this for any studio recording, I very much use this when I am broadcasting on my twitch shows remotely and have used these for nearly all DJ gigs when any announcement is to be presented.
While I have not compared the audio results with any of my other dynamic mics (many which need to be also added on the site and to my equipboard), for 20-30 smackers, this is a great microphone.
I will have to review my records to see what I paid for these nearly 20 years ago BUT it was certainly worth it due to the way I have had these in various bags, suitcases and places all over USA, MX, Canada and Europe!

The built-in speaker allows for some unusual sounds for when you want to get creative and it is useful for when at home, working on ideas or the quick practice. The smaller scale can take some adjustment but it has been both a fun piece in the family as well as utilitarian.
We have been together nearly 20 years now.
For some time, the neck went out of alignment and you could nearly LIMBO between the strings and the board but a master luthier I know was able to bring this friend back to life!
This guitar has been featured on tv show songs, commercials and other songs over the last near two decades. I have two other guitars, both of which are technically "better" but I love the sound this has.
I got this guitar years ago for $25. I rarely used it until I worked on an album and it had the perfect sound for the material. I have since grown to love this!
I have loved the way this plays so much that I even got a black one with a chrome pickguard for shows.
It feels great and has a decent sound while looking exciting on stage!

While not in my "go to" area, this bass provided many years of excellence!
Due to the pickups, it could get noisey but overall, it is fantastic!
A friend gifted me this guitar in 2024 since he didn't need two bases at his place. (Why not?)
I gladly accepted and this is the bass that now sits at my home as all the other basses are at the studio.
This is a very lightweight instrument that sounds good for an entry-level low twanger.
I have not recorded with it and have only used it several times since the last year has seen much travel though I may experiment with it this Autumn.
I do enjoy the weight and it makes it fun to pull out and play here n there.
I may update this review in the future.
For many years I desired this connecting link from guitar & bass.
In the short few months of having this, I have used it on several client jobs as well as it sparking sundry ideas!
These are notorious for coming with horrible setups, bridges and just ok pickups though for the price, it is great and you can find a decent luthier or tech or friend to get you sorted unless you are adept at this art.
I paid about $400 for mine and am glad I held out for so long as this one is magical.

I got my first one in the early 90s and then quickly added two more to the studio / live rig for those who were performing with me at the time.
I have kept my first one and shed the two others just before the pandemic though I often wish I had kept them though I did get a hefty sum for them.
The Quadraverb GT abled me to achieve many sounds I utilized over the years, spawning many creative journeys!
While I have not used it in some time, I am sure it will eventually make its way into future projects or jobs.
This is a highly recommended piece of kit which will fit right at home for people.
I did "wind up" with two Korg A3's when working on a soundtrack. This is another interesting choice though I used that primarily to get the sound The Edge played on songs like "Mysterious Ways".

Back in the 90s, I wound up with a bunch of gear that I lucked into via a sale to a local music store back in the outskirts of Philadelphia called Medley Music.
A fellow who wound up inheriting a slew of loot from his grandfather funded a HUGE studio.
He later fell into a drug haze and spent all of his money then started selling his relatively newly purchased gear BACK to the store from which it came. Of course they had to only give him a small fraction of the value and I was lucky enough to be the recipient of this, a Tascam DA-88 and more.....
Anyhow..... I used this exclusively for a number of years as my go-to vocal processor and tonal shaper.
In the last 25 years, I have since upgraded to some higher end pre-amplifiers and compressors / levelers though I do still love the Voicemaster. It is still in my main rack at the studio and once in a long while, it gets used, mostly for light work. I may experiment with it again later this year.
You can typically find one of these online for $150 and to have a fun filter / eq with other options including a simple gate along with the compression, you will find your ears to be happy with you!
Slap this puppy on vocals and it will regulate and magicalize! Simply put, Fast AF compression.
I have been using this since 2020 when I began work on a huge soundtrack.
I needed extra juice / pre-amp for a set of mics to run into my CL1B and one of the folks on the team gifted me this.
I had previously been using these and similar models for a few years when I was producing audiobooks at a bunch of studios and was surprised they opted for ART over other brands. Once I gave these a whirl, I was pleasantly surprised.
I tend to use mine for gain, gate and disengage the rest.

I wound up with two (one free) during my hunt for the patch for a song in a soundtrack I was composing in 2020/21.
You will be able to hear it later this year and if I remember, I will share a clip once it is released with sound samples.
The 90s certainly explored sounds even if some are not quite "musical" at first.

This is definitely LOUD and strong, being OAK. I was fortunate to find one from someone who bought and immediately returned this. It was never used. I have certainly used it! The off set lugs and air vents reinforce that the sound is a cannon!

I picked up this drum while traveling and working on sessions on the east coast in 2022.
It has since become one of my main snares having been used in more than a few dozen different client productions as well as a few handfuls of my own recordings.
If you see this in a store or used.... GET IT!!!!

I was glad to have used two of these on stage for a long time though the interface is quite rubbish. The SPD-SX is certainly a huge step up from this. This is great in that you can store sounds and record sounds inside of it however, the file structure and type is proprietary which was dropped for a regular wave file and streamlined structure with the SX.
This is a lightweight, expressive electronic pad geared toward world music with a bevy of percussive organic sounds and tones. It is extremely well build and is unfortunate that Korg did not (yet) continue with this direction!
I found this kit at the Goodwill for $29.99 in West LA in May 8th, 2023.
I have used the snare on several jobs and in less than one hour, it paid itself, the kit, the gas and more.....
My set came with everything plus a triangle.
The kick drum sounds decent as well!
I scooped a box of the drums a few months ago with some of the electronic drums, all for $5 at Sam Ash Hollywood's drum shop. I had to find an additional Floor Tom to shift the toms to be lower in tone as desired as well as the rack system.
Luckily, while searching the FACEBOOKERY MarketPlace a few weeks ago, I found a full A-400 kit, complete with Travel Bag for $300 and the guy was 20 minutes from my home!!!
I have since been working with this kit, having modified it with the deeper tom selection and have headlined a festival just before we split town to do a 3-week tour!!! I was able to carry all the drums and the rack myself in one go with my laptop stand and linux netbook & audio interface and my tech carried the bag with the og hi-hat stand, throne, stick bag with fan, snare & stand.

I have worked with a ridiculous variety of interfaces since 1990. Avid beasts to Universal Audio to Apogee and Antelope.... This secret tiger is a tank. It never fails and is mostly just used for performance at this point and not in the studio but I do fire it up at home when needed.
If I were to explain the joy this brought to me.... it would go on and on and on and on for hours and hours and weeks and centuries......

My friends at Novation gifted this and a few other gems to me before a June / July 2022 tour.
It took some time and a few youtube videos to get me started since there is lots of "shift+press" type functionality but I have found this to be a fun machine.
I flew to Ireland, then over to England and a few train rides between Leeds and London and never had to recharge the battery!
I will be creating sounds for the new libraries for this series of machine. You can sample directly into it or drag sounds from a computer, etc.
The internal sounds are weak to my tastes but once you add your own sounds, you will find a very capable and creativity inspiring groove box which is light weight for ultra portable action!

PSP MixPressor2 is a fully-featured, high precision compressor designed to process either whole mixes or single tracks. PSP MixPressor2 emulates the classic characteristics of compressors with valve and opto-electronic circuits as as classic modern compression solutions. PSP MixPressor2 also offers a highly configurable side-chain feature. The side-chain filter has a significant effect on PSP MixPressor2's sound and operation. The filter also enables the user to operate the compressor as a de-esser or to lessen the pumping effects of heavy kick drums and the like, based on the side-chain settings. The PSP MixPressor2 offers a wide range of features:
a wide range of soft knee characteristics
either peak or RMS level detection
external or internal side chain signal with a smooth bell-type filter
a output algorithm which can operate as either a brick wall limiter or soft saturation algorithm to preserve peaks above 0dBFS.
PSP MixPressor2 also works very well in combination with the PSP MixSaturator2. With the PSP MixPressor2 before the PSP MixSaturator2 in the signal path (think of a bus compressor before a tape machine), you can employ both plug-ins simultaneously (at subtle settings!) in order to impart a very cohesive sound, like your mix was being produced on expensive analog hardware. Of course, you can also reverse the order, placing PSP MixSaturator2 before PSP MixPressor2 - never'be afraid to experiment!

The editor works well and though I have not used it to "SPIN MUSIC", it works well as a wireless controller for live performance.
Icon is a fantastic company and this controller works well, looking stunning on stage.
While not the biggest fan of M-Audio these days... their audio interfaces and controllers last a long time!

I would never have bothered with this.
Just a week before lockdown, I came home one night to find a box by my door. This was the LaunchKey Mini which is designed for Ableton. While I tinker in Ableton, I typically work in FL Studio and Reaper when I can toss away Pro Tools and Logic.
I was fine with that controller for my home. At my recording studio, I have a full 88-Key controller which has been a trusty friend for a decade.
In June 2022, Novation came to my studio and along with a few other items, they gave me this.
It allows you to write in real-time, never stopping the sequencer and to move around the DAW flawlessly, never ever touching your computer qwerty keys and even the need to view a monitor screen.
It is quite impressive.
While I generally will not use it this way, it is quite convenient at home and I can see what is happening while I am scoring to picture and or whatnot.
