I brought this bad boy along for a live video shoot with the fantastic musician @traceyyarad yesterday in #brooklyn and I love it. Its the #KU5A from #AEA and it’s a supercardioid ribbon mic that takes regular 48V phantom power. It’s very natural for a ribbon and it really smooths out those extra-high tones and noises that a violin is so good at producing. I’ve gravitated towards ribbons over the past few years after realizing that many of my favorite violin (and vocal) sounds of yesteryear were captured by them. I still love a great small-diaphragm condenser on the violin too but... I think I like this even more.
