Features and functionality

    Source
  • The XLR output is notably too hot for some boards without a -40dB pad, requiring careful volume management during live performances.

    Source

    Source

Value and pricing

  • Purchasing a used Ampeg 410HLF cab with a 500W head can provide substantial volume for punk genres at a cost similar to new, lower-powered combos.

    Source
  • A used unit priced under $300 is considered a great deal, especially if in good condition, as new ones cost around $500.

    Source

    Source

  • For punk and hardcore shows, a 500W head paired with a 4x10 cab is recommended for adequate volume and presence.

    Source
  • The Scrambler circuit is initially off-putting alone but excels in a mix, especially with a mid-boost, making it ideal for certain tracks like "Lost in the K Hole."

    Source
  • The amp provides sufficient power for mid-sized rooms and outdoor sets, keeping pace with drummers effectively.

    Source

Comparisons

  • The Rumble 500 v3 outputs 350W at 8 ohms, providing more power than the Ampeg BA-210 V2's 280W, making it slightly more potent for live settings.

    Source
  • Users often recommend comparing the Ampeg BA-210 V2 with Fender Rumble amps, noting preference for the latter’s sound quality.

    Source

Mods and upgrades

  • Adding an Ampeg Opto-Comp compressor is recommended for achieving a polished, professional sound, as the amp lacks onboard compression.

    Source

Build quality

    Source
  • The V2 series reportedly has issues with tweeter hiss, leading many users to disable it entirely for a cleaner sound.

Ampeg Sound Delivered

I have now had this amp for nearly four years. It is built like a tank but is not so heavy as to make moving it around difficult.

The built-in "Scrambler" effect is marginal and (at least to my way of thinking) best used with a Precision bass with the "Tone" control backed off. Then it sounds extremely cool.

There are enough buttons and knobs to keep the OCD crowd occupied, I tend to have everything at 12:00 with some minor fiddling about with them occasionally.

Since being discontinued by Ampeg, I have seen them second-hand for as little as $250, making this combo an EXTREMELY GREAT deal for anyone looking.

I can recommend this for ANY bass player, and ANY style of music. It is a wonderful amplifier.
