Supremely Exceeded My Expectations! This is a GREAT Amp!

After an 11 year hiatus from playing bass, I started again two months ago. I did not want to spend a ton of money so I picked up a very nice Fender Squier Precision PJ Beginner's Pack that came with a Rumble 15 amplifier.

Now, the Rumble 15 has 1 8" speaker and 15 watts of power (thus the "15" moniker) and it is a fine amp for daily practice in your bedroom. I knew, when I bought it, that the amplifier while great for practicing, but, eventually, I would want something bigger and more powerful. Well, "eventually" came much more quickly than I had anticipated!

Thence began my "Quest for the Sound". Based on my budget, it came down to a choice between the Fender Rumble 500 and the Ampeg BA-21v2 I started reading the reviews at retail music sites online, I listened to YouTube demonstrations and perused opinions on several music-based message boards. After all these considerations; I went with what I have ALWAYS WANTED -- an Ampeg.

I was a little concerned because in nearly all the YouTube videos I had seen, the Ampeg sounded a bit "thinner" than the Fender did. It is likely due to the style (mainly slap and pop) of the reviewers making the videos. It turns out that Ampeg was IT!

This amplifier has exceeded all of my expectations. It is wonderfully round and full in its tone. The two 10" speakers are a thing of sonic beauty and the build quality of the cabinet is flawless. It feels solid and substantial in spite of its relatively light weight. One will have no trouble loading and unloading this when gigging.

With the three-band equalizer and the Ultra Hi/Lo Tone shaping, I can get any sound I want to out of it. There is even a -15dB input pad for basses with active electronics; so it looks like I now have an excuse to buy that Stingray.

The only real negative thing I have to say is that I am rather disappointed in the "Scrambler Overdrive" circuit. It is not very good and I would suggest getting a pedal instead. Other than that, this amp is a BEAST that absolutely KILLS IT on tone!

If you are reading this and seriously considering the Ampeg BA-210, I can comfortably and confidently tell you to go ahead and pull the trigger. Buy this thing and you will NOT be disappointed!

To sum up:

PROS:

  1. The Ampeg Sound!
  2. Excellent build quality and value for the money.
  3. The Ampeg Sound!
  4. Relatively light weight, easy to transport to a gig.
  5. The Ampeg Sound!
  6. The LED logos are heckin' cool!
  7. The Ampeg Sound!

CONS:

  1. "Scrambler Overdrive" circuit is mediocre at best. Get a pedal.

AMPEG OWNS

Well, i have been enjoying this amp a lot, it does have all those things people mention in forums about buzzing sounds when turned too loud, mine for example starts to vibrate and make horrible noises just past volume 3. Since i use it as a practice amp i don't really care, and i also use it for recording, the Line Out solves any problems mentioned before. Another problem i found was that it overheats pretty easily and starts making a groundlike noise, maybe the excuse was that it was very hot in my city, near 40 C, and maybe that contributed a little; i could play for like 30 minutes no problem, then the weird noises started, it's just something you hear if you're not playing. Right now the weather is nice and i haven't had any problem with it.

Neat little practice amp

This little lump of lead packs the most of what you'll need to rehearse with a loud drummer into something small enough not to be a bother in the rehearsal space. The gain circuit isn't really all that nice but the many other features makes this one worth the expense in my opinion.

Great Value Bass Amp

This is a great, affordable, and very loud bass amplifier for a very affordable price. A few built-in effects such as overdrive, and ultra-hi and ultra-lo boosts give you plenty of ways to craft your sound. This is simply one of the best solid-state bass amps I've ever played. Would highly recommend for gigging, recording, or just jamming at home.
