Description

Introducing the Ampeg SVT Cabinets, a legendary name in the world of bass amplification. This isn't just any cabinet, it's the very embodiment of SVT legacy - a striking combination of classic appearance and contemporary performance.

The SVT-810AV is a direct descendant of the original SVT-810, a design that has withstood the test of time since 1969. The cabinet is packed with eight 10" speakers, a configuration that Ampeg discovered to be more efficient than larger-sized speakers. This unique arrangement delivers a massive column of sound, with a transient response that's quick and precise.

The SVT-810AV boasts the same Infinite Baffle design that gave the original its tightly focused bass. This sealed enclosure design is still in production today, maintaining the tradition of vast, resonant bass output.

The cabinet's aesthetic harks back to the original SVT-810, with a vintage metallic sheen fabric covering and classic hardware details. Despite the retro looks, the SVT-810AV is equipped with modern connection options, including 1/4" and Neutrik speakON jacks.

Key Features:

  • Iconic SVT-AV head color scheme
  • Tilt-back handle bar for easy transport
  • Dual 1/4" and Neutrik speakON jacks for versatile connectivity
  • Durable Baltic birch plywood cabinet
  • Heavy-duty recessed wheels for mobility
  • Skid rails for additional protection
  • Eight 10" speakers for powerful, efficient sound
  • Frequency response of 58Hz-5kHz
  • Sensitivity of 100dB
  • Maximum SPL of 130dB.

Owner Insights

We analyzed real musician discussions from forums and Reddit to find what players love, question, and tweak about Ampeg SVT-810AV.

User experience

  • The Ampeg SVT-810AV is noted for its ease of movement due to tilt-back casters and height, allowing rolling and loading into vans, though stairs require two people.

    Source
  • Owners report the cabinet's sound can be challenging for small stages, as its volume can interfere with mic setups for drums and vocals.

    Source
  • Owners note the head requires an 18' cable due to the height, as 5' is used to reach the top.

    Source
  • Some report a steep increase in volume control, with comfortable sound levels at 9 o'clock on gain and master volume.

    Source
  • A user humorously suggests the cabinet as a potential back massager due to its powerful vibrations when turned up.

    Source
  • Some owners prefer US-made models for their cosmetics or to support local manufacturing, rather than for any perceived tonal differences in tubes.

    Source

Comparisons

  • Compared to 4x10s and 4x12s, the SVT-810AV is easier to move because it can be tipped and slid rather than deadlifted.

    Source
  • It has been suggested to consider Barefaced cabs for lighter 8x10 alternatives, though they come at a premium price.

    Source
  • A user transitioned from a tube head and 8x10 to an HX Stomp, citing similar tone without the physical burden.

    Source
  • The US-made SVT-810AV is noted for superior sound quality over the Chinese 810E, attributed to the different speakers used in the cabinets.

    Source

Use cases and applications

  • Ideal for loud rock/metal settings, the SVT-810AV is described as commanding attention and sounding amazing when driven hard, yet overkill for smaller venues or coffee shop gigs.

    Source

Features and functionality

  • The SVT-810AV is divided into four sealed sections of 2x10s, affecting its sound character, described as having more "bloom" compared to tighter, punchier smaller cabs.

    Source
  • The solid-state head is perceived as a tube-sounding alternative, offering a cheaper, yet convincing sound.

    Source
  • US-made SVT models come with JJ tubes, while Korean and Vietnamese models typically feature Sovtek tubes, which are considered industry standard.

It's a great, deep sounding cabinet, that is the quintessential bass cabinet. It'll move a massive amount of air, too. Heavy, at 140lbs, but you'll get used to moving it.
