Owner Insights

We analyzed real musician discussions from forums and Reddit to find what players love, question, and tweak about Behringer ADA8000.

Comparisons

  • The ADA8200, an upgrade from the ADA8000, features Midas preamps, which are perceived as superior to the ADA8000's original preamps.

    Source
  • Owners note the M-Audio Octane's preamps outperform the ADA8000's, especially when paired with Tascam US 2000 for drum recording.

    Source

User experience

  • Behringer and Midas preamps are noted for their neutral sound, with minimal noise even when using cheaper microphones with high gain.

    Source
  • Noise levels with the ADA8000 are low, and inserting a turned-off mic (like the AKG P3S Live) can further reduce noise.

    Source
  • Some users employ the ADA8000 with Behringer xAir 12 for small gigs, leveraging ADAT loopback for additional preamp channels.

    Source

Use cases and applications

  • The ADA8000 is a viable option for expanding recording capabilities to 16 channels, especially useful for drum recording setups.

    Source
  • For live settings, the ADA8000 preamps are adequate but lack a pad, making them prone to overload with hot condenser mics.

    Source

Features and functionality

  • Looping ADAT out to ADAT in allows the ADA8000 to function as an 8-channel preamp, albeit with added latency and unnecessary A/D and D/A conversion stages.

    Source
  • The ADA8000 requires ADAT loopback to act as a preamp; without it, the unit remains inactive for analog in/out functions.

    Source

Other

  • The ADA8000's ADAT transmitter is always active post power-up, but the receiver requires a connection to function, illustrating its reliance on ADAT for operation.

Good value product

A pretty nice converter that easily adds 8 channels of line inputs/outputs to any optical-ADAT audio interface.

Used it with my trusty M-Audio 1814 interface back in the day and it allowed me to record way channels at once. Behringer may not be the most beloved company out there, but they do make some products that are very solid for their price tag, and the ADA8000 is one of them.

Very easy to use, you do not need a audio engineering diploma to operate it at all.

Flawed, but can't complain for the price

I've clocked a good couple hundred hours on my (used) ADA8000, and it hasn't failed or let me down... for what I paid for it. It's not a perfect product at all - the A/D converters are clean but not the greatest ever, some of the ports have a buzz at 60, 120, and 240hz (easy enough to EQ out), and some of the inputs require jiggling to get a signal. Mine may have just been used roughly, but if a unit like this can't handle some roughhousing I'd consider that a major flaw. However, considering you can get these for $100 to $150 used... it's hard to complain about the price:performance ratio.
