Critic Reviews

Aphex Model 204

soundonsound.com

The Aphex Model 204 offers a refined take on the classic Aural Exciter with enhancements like the Optical Big Bottom. It's a versatile tool for breathing life into mixes, adding clarity, and restoring audio detail. However, caution is needed with its bass enhancements, as excessive settings can introduce unwanted subsonic energy. While it excels in studio applications, its sonic signature might prove fatiguing if overused. Ideal for individual tracks and mixes alike, the Model 204 is a reliable choice for both corrective and creative sound shaping, but it demands a discerning hand.

similar to a BBE

this unit has the bass phase alignment and enhanciness (like that word? you can use it) of a BBE with the better top end enhancement of the famed Aural Exciters. I remember really liking this unit but having limited applications for it.. the abss enhancement is mainly good for live sound and dance music but in the studio I definteily used this on the odd overhead recording or on a dull snare or hihat track... useful but not worth keeping aorund
