Charvel Pro-Mod San Dimas PJ IV and JJ V review | Guitar World

guitarworld.com

Charvel's Pro-Mod San Dimas PJ IV and JJ V basses deliver a delightful blend of retro aesthetics and modern playability. Their lightweight design and comfortable body contours make them a joy to handle, while the active EQ offers versatility for tone shaping. However, the pickups lack distinct tonal variation, leaving some players wanting more differentiation. Overall, these basses strike a commendable balance between nostalgic charm and contemporary functionality, making them a worthy consideration for those in search of a high-performance instrument.

Unbelievably great 5 String

I never thought I would own a Charvel anything, but I couldn’t get this bass out of my head. I’ve had a few 5 Strings, and this is hands down my favorite one I’ve owned in 20 years of playing.

The neck is fast and smooth, the finish is so so striking, and it gives me the clarity, punch and power I suppose I’ve never had in a 5 before. The Low B never feels muddy and undefined, which is something I’ve always struggled with in a 5.

In the short time I’ve had it, I’ve done pop, rock, singer/songwriter and R&B/Hip Hop with it, and it ALWAYS finds its place. I can see this one as a main staple of my studio for a long time.
