The difference isn't just in appearance: the ash wood has a crisp, clear sound, and the maple top adds just the right amount of compression, tightening the tone and creating a more defined sound.

The controls consist of a master volume, balancer, and boost/cut treble and bass (with a center detent for flat adjustment). The Crews TBC-1 preamp included in this model faithfully implements the "basics of active instruments" by allowing you to adjust equalization/boost/cut without distorting the original sound. Its wide-range, clear, yet natural sound is truly ideal.

You can play a "natural yet powerful sound" in a flat setting, or you can use equalization to create a "flashy sound" by emphasizing the high and low frequencies. The TBC-1 is unique in that it allows you to achieve both. The volume is also a switch pot, so by pulling the pot up, you can completely bypass the active circuit. (There is no tone control when playing passively.) The rich sound of the standard one-piece ash body is great, but the compression feel unique to this maple-top model is also addictive.
