Description
The JB-Modern Passive delivers such powerful, clear sound that you'll forget it's a passive amplifier.
As the name JB-Modern suggests, when all controls are fully set, the passive pickup delivers a punchy attack and a solid tone. By manipulating the volume and tone controls for each pickup, you can create a sound that sounds almost like an active pickup, or even a vintage-like sound, or a jazzy, mellow sound.
The secret lies in the pickups. Crews' original Type-J pickups were modeled after the powerful JB pickups found in the 1960s stack pot (two-pot) era. This pickup was designed to compensate for the resistance and sound leakage of stack pots, so when using standard pots, it produces a powerful sound like an active bass without losing power. Its response to the volume control is as described above. This allows the player to freely control the sound they want.
While the JB-Modern boasts classic JB specifications—alder for the body, maple for the neck, and rosewood for the fingerboard—one of the reasons it's so popular with bassists is its "playing feel."
Carefully crafted by skilled craftsmen in Japan, the neck takes nearly four times longer than a typical neck to craft, resulting in a comfortable feel the moment you pick it up, and a stable playing feel that makes you feel as if you've been playing for ages. The neck shape, carefully designed based on feedback from bassists on the front lines, allows for stress-free playing for long periods of time without fatigue.
In addition to being easy to play, the JB-Modern offers a wide range of sound variations. Crews' JB style is tailored to the player.
