Critic Reviews

“Very much the upgrade that was needed for one of the most popular headphone amps for guitar”: Fender Mustang Micro Plus review | Guitar World

guitarworld.com

The Fender Mustang Micro Plus is a compact powerhouse for guitarists on the go, delivering an impressive variety of tones and user-friendly features. With 25 amp and effect simulations and a convenient app for deeper customization, it’s a significant upgrade from its predecessor. However, it struggles with quick preset switching and can distort at high volumes with bass-heavy settings. Despite these minor drawbacks, it stands out as a top choice for silent practice, making it a worthy addition to any guitarist's gear.

Fender Mustang Micro Plus review – packaged Tone Master vibes

guitar.com

Fender's Mustang Micro Plus delivers a punchy, portable amp experience with an intuitive app and a wealth of presets that elevate it above competitors. Boasting 70 sounds out of the box and user-friendly controls, it’s a solid choice for guitarists seeking versatility. However, the lack of on-the-fly gain adjustment is a notable oversight, and while the app functions seamlessly, it may not be necessary for all users. Overall, it's a commendable upgrade that reaffirms Fender's standing in the headphone amp arena, though some may find the original Mustang Micro sufficient for simpler needs.

Review: Fender's $129 dongle-amp puts half a Tonemaster Pro in your pocket

newatlas.com

Fender's Mustang Micro Plus is a game-changer for headphone practice, boasting a staggering array of tonal options and an intuitive app. With 25 amp models and effects pedals, it offers customization that's hard to beat for such a compact device. However, its physical controls can feel cumbersome, and the built-in tuner is slow. While it may not win any beauty contests, its performance and versatility make it a must-have for guitarists on the go. A few quirks, like its lightweight feel and reliance on wired headphones, might frustrate some, but overall, it’s an impressive and affordable tool for practice and recording.

versatile practice tool

I just started learning to play the guitar and of course one of the big questions is what kind of gear should I get and what kind of gear do I even need, and especially when it comes to Amp's, there are endless options. I think Headphone Amp's in general are really nice for practicing, and this one is pretty versatile. I use it plugged into my Guitar with Headphones (it comes with an App where you can choose between preexisting effect presets, but you can also create your own and even upload them or download other peoples presets from the library) but also as an audio interface for my laptop to use virtual amp sims or even record, which is very nice because I don't have to buy a completely separate interface for now. There are a lot of amps and pedals to choose from in the app, depending on the tone you want, the only issue with this Headphone Amp is that it has a little bit of constant white noise which isn't noticeable for cleaner presets but a lot more noisy on higher gain settings, this is something that can be reduced by adjusting some of the settings or (when using it to connect to a computer) using a noise gate though. Overall, this is an amazing tool for me as a beginner, but I would say for pretty much anyone who is looking for a small, portable practice amp with a couple of extra features.

Preferred Settings + Usage:

My favourite go-to presets from the app are the clean fender one for clean sounds, as well as Metal 2000 for heavier stuff.
