Mods and upgrades

  • Replacing the included 8" speaker with a custom-made pine 12" enclosure significantly enhances the amp's performance.

    Source
  • An EQ pedal is recommended to boost the low-end frequencies, enhancing the amp's tonal depth and warmth.

    Source

User experience

  • Many users find the amp's Fender tones particularly compelling for practicing blues and blues rock.

    Source

Use cases and applications

  • While suitable for bedroom practice, playing with a drummer depends on their dynamics, as the amp may struggle without modifications.

  • The Champion II is better suited as a clean tone "machine," ideal for players looking to focus on clean playing techniques and board learning.

    Source
  • Owners who perform at small gigs prefer the Champion 40 for its power and ability to switch between clean and gain channels, unlike the II 25.

  • The Champion 40 offers dual channels allowing seamless transitions from jazz to rock, making it versatile even as a practice amp.

    Source

Comparisons

  • The Champion II's cleans are likened to those of the Mustang LT40S, which also struggles with distorted tones but excels as a pedal platform.

    Source
  • The Champion 40's larger 12" speaker is favored over the II 25's 8" speaker for better sound quality and versatility across musical styles.

    Source

Value and pricing

  • While both amps are stable from an operational standpoint, the II 25 is suggested for home use due to potentially longer lifespan compared to a used Champion 40.

Ok starter combo

Born too early for a decent tube, born too late for a modern digital. Overall fair middle-ground fender amplifier for a beginner to experiment on with the sound presets available. Watch the gain to volume balance and you won't blow your eardrums or the speakers out.

Preferred Settings + Usage:

In between british and metal, max gain low volume, 2 - 3 bass, high treble, no fx

It's a good beginner guitar amp.

It's a great beginner guitar amp when you're just starting out but really nothing more than that. But seriously, when I was just starting out playing, this amp was absolutely perfect.
