The Matter Version II Drum Wave Synthesizer by Folktek

The Folktek Matter II Drum Wave Synthesizer is an experimental Eurorack module that combines analogue drum synthesis with a highly unconventional pin matrix patching system for creating complex, organic sound structures. Instead of traditional patch cables, it uses a matrix of gold pins to internally reroute signals, enabling everything from tight percussive hits to chaotic noise, drones, and evolving textures. Designed as a refined version of the original Matter, it emphasizes improved playability while still offering deep exploratory sound design possibilities. The module features three independent sound sections that can be blended and modulated via CV, allowing dynamic control over rhythm and timbre. It can also process external audio through built-in fuzz, filtering, and distortion circuits for further sonic manipulation. Matter I → Matter II Upgrade

The Folktek Matter II is essentially a refined, more playable, and expanded evolution of the original Matter rather than a completely different instrument. The core analogue drum-wave synthesis remains the same, but the way you interact with it and the consistency of results has been significantly improved.
Matter I = raw, chaotic, highly experimental, but harder to control
Matter II = same sonic DNA, but cleaner interface, more control, better output, and deeper modulation

Improvements on Matter II:

• Pin matrix instead of jumper cables replaces the original’s Dupont wire patching with a cleaner, faster, and more reliable pin-based system
• Much improved usability & workflow patching is more intuitive and less fiddly, making it easier to explore sounds
• 3 structured sound channels clearer layout with dedicated sections, each with its own control and CV
• Added CV control over core parameters allows external modulation of the “resist” (tone-shaping) controls, which wasn’t as direct in v1
• Higher output level fixes the original Matter’s relatively low output signal
• Built-in vactrol amplitude control (VCA-like behavior) enables dynamic shaping of the overall output via CV/gate
• More predictable and tunable behavior still experimental, but less chaotic and easier to control musically
• Improved build & design more robust construction, clearer visual feedback (matrix illumination), and overall more polished hardware
