Description

GITTLER II / ASTRON GITTLER II

Year: Mid-to-late 1980s

The Gittler II, also known as the Astron Gittler II, is the Israeli-made production version of Allan Gittler’s radical minimalist electric guitar design. It was produced by Astron Engineering Enterprises after Gittler moved to Israel and is visually distinct from the earlier New York-made stainless-steel Gittler guitars.

The Gittler II keeps the original concept of reducing the electric guitar to its functional essentials, but adds a more practical molded body/neck structure around the central metal frame. It features 31 tubular stainless-steel frets, six individual string pickups, onboard active preamps, and divided-output capability. Unlike the earliest New York Gittlers, the Israeli-made Gittler II commonly used a standard 1/4-inch output and/or multi-pin output connection.

Its extended 31-fret range, individual pickup system, and extremely minimal body design make it one of the most unusual electric guitars of the 1980s. The model is often associated with red or white finishes, though examples vary.
