Critic Reviews

Apple iMac Pro Review | PCMag

pcmag.com

The Apple iMac Pro delivers stunning performance wrapped in a sleek Space Gray design, making it an ideal tool for creative professionals. With an Intel Xeon CPU and AMD Radeon Vega graphics, it handles demanding tasks like 3D rendering with ease, earning it an Editors' Choice accolade. However, its sky-high price and workflow-dependent performance gains may deter some buyers. Furthermore, the keyboard is noted for its discomfort, and its lack of touch screen or pen support limits its appeal for digital designers. Overall, it's a powerful machine for those who can justify its cost.

iMac Pro review: the most powerful Mac yet | TechRadar

techradar.com

The iMac Pro is a powerhouse, ideal for professionals seeking top-tier performance in a sleek all-in-one design. Its impressive specs include a 5K Retina display and workstation-level hardware, making it a dream for creatives. However, this beast comes with a hefty price tag and lacks user-upgradability, which might deter budget-conscious buyers. The design is elegant, but the Magic Mouse 2 charging method remains frustratingly outdated. Despite these drawbacks, the iMac Pro offers exceptional performance and a sophisticated build for those who can justify the investment.

Took the dive...no regrets

I had my studio computer die on me before expected. The plan was to wait for the Mac Pro modular but I had to get back to work & wanted a workhorse I could count on for years & despite being skeptical about the “locked in” nature of the iMac Pro I took the chance. I’d been doing fine w/ less than half the power so I expected & nice bump & I got that & more. Side bonus? Runs crazy quiet so no need to build a new iso box for the new rig. Screen is plenty large enough & crazy sharp -I’m ditching the honestly excessive monitor I’d been using. I have yet to intentionally try and blow the cap on tracks/plugs but sessions I used to hit 80% or more on my old rig? This guy just chews thru ‘em without the fan even kicking on.

Note that this is the base model I believe:

3.2 Xeon W 32 gig

I do run largely a hardware joint but even on very (VERY) plugin heavy sessions this guy has yet to break a sweat. No regrets.
