Owner Insights
We analyzed real musician discussions from forums and Reddit to find what players love, question, and tweak about Kenton Pro CV to MIDI.
Features and functionality
-
Adjusting parameter 18 (CV settling time) on the Kenton Pro CV to MIDI may improve note accuracy but doesn't fully resolve random pitch issues.
Source -
The Kenton retrofit MIDI-CV kits are considered trustworthy and reliable, often used for decades on vintage synths like the Roland SH-101.
Source -
The Kenton Pro Solo Mk3 allows for easy configuration and preset storage for different CV and Gate settings, accommodating synths with varying voltage requirements.
Source
Software and compatibility
-
The MS-20 Mini lacks a "local off" function, complicating integration with the Kenton Pro CV to MIDI for seamless operation with its original keyboard.
Source
Use cases and applications
-
Using the Kenton Pro CV to MIDI with an MS-20 Mini can be problematic due to pitch inconsistencies, hindering its usability as a MIDI controller.
Source -
Using CV directly with a DC-coupled audio interface offers tighter timing and creative patching possibilities compared to MIDI integration.
Source -
The Micromoog requires CV input attenuation and uses Cinch-Jones cables for S-trig gate input, with CV summing with keyboard voltage for correct pitch offset.

Mods and upgrades
-
The Kenton 5 socket mod for the TB-303 tolerates over and negative voltages, allowing for audio-rate CV abuse, though it introduces minor clock noise due to unshielded wires.
Source -
The Kenton 4 socket mod for the MC-202 avoids clock noise issues entirely, likely due to better circuit board design compared to the TB-303.
Source
Comparisons
-
For non-destructive mod options on the Roland SH-101, consider using the Pro Solo converter, or Tubbutec's SH-1oh1 which offers a non-invasive routing via the battery compartment.
Source -
The Roland MPU-101 offers 4-channel MIDI to CV conversion, including controller data, and is noted for compatibility with vintage synths like the SCI Pro-One.
Source -
The Korg SQ1 supports 1V/oct, Hz/V, V-trig, and S-trig, making it a versatile choice for sequencing varied synths like MG-1 and MS10.

Converts CV/Gate to midi notes and two aux CV to MIDI-CC
Bought it to convert a theremin MOOG Etherwave Plus (with CV outs) to a midi-controller. Works excellent. Ultimate deal for it's price.
Has a few minor drawbacks: 1. In some cases (at my home, but not in a studio or musicmarket) stock adaptor can leak a groundloop effect while using with a theremin (sounds terrible, hum noise ading an FM-modulation to an oscilator). Problem is solved with a powerful Roland PSB-120 9V 2000mA adaptor (with use of polarity inverter, for sure!!!!!). Maybe some magic applied due to a little coil on a wire. 2. Had an issue with a very strange range of notes mapped to a pitch-CV range, which was impossible to reconfigure from a panel. Fixed with a reset to a factory settings.
This device does a very uncommon task. Mostly people want to convert a MIDI to CV, and I'm very glad I have this device for that fair amount of money.
