LTD Viper-301 Review: My favorite feature is the EMG pickups. There was no need... | ESP | Electric Guitars | Reviews @ Ultimate-Guitar.Com

ultimate-guitar.com

The ESP LTD Viper 301 is a robust choice for hard rock and metal enthusiasts, boasting EMG passive humbuckers that excel in clean tones over high-end distortion. While it may struggle with blues or classical genres, its durability and perfect setup make it a reliable gig companion. With a mahogany body and abalone inlays, it offers great value for its price range. Overall, it's hailed as an exceptional guitar for its cost, though serious upgrades might tempt those looking for more versatility.

LTD Viper-301 Review: I've been playing over 5 or 6 years and my style... | ESP | Electric Guitars | Reviews @ Ultimate-Guitar.Com

ultimate-guitar.com

The ESP LTD Viper 301 shines with its solid construction, punchy sound, and versatile style, particularly for hard rock and metal enthusiasts. While it offers a great price-to-quality ratio, potential buyers might consider upgrading the tuners and pickups for an even more stellar performance. Its durability and sleek design make it a reliable choice, albeit a heavy one. Overall, a superb guitar for the money, especially if you can find one second-hand.

Punches well above it's weight

My go to for drop C, Extra Jumbo frets and 25 3/4 scale length just beckon for it. I've heard off putting remarks about the EMG hz line, but they sound similar to 81's, at least in the case for the bridge pickup. The cleans however are nothing to write home about; both bridge and neck are brittle and lack the Warmth of a passive and the output of a 60, and leaves much to be desired. In the case of the black version with EMG's, it was clearly designed for metal and it shows so I do fault it for it's cleans.
