Features and functionality
-
The Marshall 9001 features three channels: pristine clean, classic Marshall crunch, and a high-gain channel that struggles with modern tones.
Source -
The active EQ is switchable and highly effective, allowing for broad changes in tone and level, comparable to having a parametric EQ pedal in the effects loop.

Use cases and applications
-
Works best with an actual power amp at high volumes, particularly effective with overdriven power tubes and 4x12 cabinets for thick, smooth high-gain tones.

Viva 1990's !!!!
I started on Bass and in my youthful exuberance MY hero's were Entwistle, Chris Squire, Geddy, and an abiding luv of Lemmy, so after a few years using various head/cabs- SVT, Peavy, SWR; I wound up chasing the Doug Pinnick dragon and got a rack; 1/2 of a stereo power amp was a ART that was basically dry, the other half I used one of these. WOW are these things awesome; very musical and rich crunch/distortion and switchable with their 4 button controller- I got some amazing sounds from this, though never tried it with Guitar. Nice cackling high midsized, and the presence dialed in a sweet sizzle. Great for the money and really versatile.

From the time that I started working for Tony in September of 1990 up to mid 1993, Tony had been using a variety of amps and speaker systems for live and recording work. The live rig was a Marshall system, based on the tube 9000 series. Physically there were;
steel cages, each with fixed castors and containing 2 Marshall 4 x 12″ speaker cabinets. 2 amplifier rack cases, each containing 3 Marshall 9005 50 watt stereo tube power amplifiers. 1 control/effects rack case, containing 2 (1 as a spare) Marshall 9001 tube pre-amplifiers, various effect units and a Pete Cornish relay effects switching unit.
The lastest setup which I still have is a Marshall 9000 pre-amp use combine with a good amp like crown or bmg or even a good old acoustic
