The 1986 Stratocaster Black by Pensa-Suhr

The Pensa-Suhr 1986 Stratocaster Black is a highly collectible custom “super-Strat” built during the early collaboration between Rudy Pensa and master luthier John Suhr at Rudy’s Music Stop in New York City. These guitars became legendary through their association with Mark Knopfler, who used several Pensa-Suhr instruments during the late 1980s and early 1990s tours and recordings. The 1986 black model combined vintage Stratocaster ergonomics with modern performance features such as EMG pickups and a Floyd Rose tremolo system, creating a versatile, studio-grade instrument with exceptional tuning stability. Handmade in very small numbers, original examples are now considered boutique collector guitars with strong historical significance in the evolution of high-end custom electric guitars. Players and collectors value them for their smooth neck feel, articulate tone, premium craftsmanship, and connection to the New York custom guitar scene of the 1980s.
